Vb.net - Implement A Counter In Label Which Decrements Every Time Page Is Loaded?
May 14, 2010
how to implement a counter in label which decrements every time page is loaded in asp.net(vb)? It would be better if that counter value is accessed from and updated into database..
I've tried this on buttonclick but the value is reset automatically to intial value everytime as the button is insert and page is reloaded
Protected Sub InsertButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Dim entries As Label = FindControl("label1")
entries.Text = entries.Text - 1
End Sub

I thought that Page_Load events executed every time a page was loaded not just the first time. Am I wrong on this?
I have a Page_Load event that writes text to a label to display on the screen: Output.Text &= "Welcome to my Website <br />" (Output being the ID of a Label control)
I also have an On_Click event for a button to display the same information: Output.Text &= "Welcome to my Website <br />"
After clicking the button, I expected to see the output twice. Once for the page being reloaded and once for the click event. I thought that Page_Load events executed every time a page was loaded not just the first time.

When a user visits our site they see a coverflow. They are not logged in so they cant see any images. Once they log in they should be able to see images in the coverflow but they cant because the flash object is being cached.
A user can get around this problem by setting the IE settings to (check for newer versions of stored pages every time they visit a site) however we need a way to force the browser to refresh the flash object once they are logged in, without telling all of our users to change the settings in their browser.
Is this possible?
[code]....
You can see my inline c# script to generate random numbers but that doesnt seem to refresh the object.

I am bit of a newbie but..... I am trying to DIM a counter in my VB code, add to it and then, at the end of my filling a form, I want to take the counter and put it in a label or something on the form. In other words, I want to count the rows and display them on my form. It will not let me take the counter and put it in the label even if I convert it to a string. I know is probably very simple, but how do I do this.

I have some serious performance Issues with Windows controls loading first time on IE Browser then subsequent request's. When ever i open Browser first time , mywebsite takes 7 seconds to load, but on subsequent request without closing browser it loads with-in 2 seconds.I Knew IIS on first time it re-compiles the process and for subsequent request's it wont perform and it cahches .I'm looking for better options to improve performance, when ever first time reqest's comes to web server.
On IIS 7 Server,I was using both Dynamic and Static compression enabled.Also,On application pool ,I set "ShutDown Time(Limit)" and "Startup Time(Limit") to 90 (seconds).Here is web.config i disable below to improve performance issues.
<trace enabled="false" pageOutput="false" />
<compilation debug="false"/>
Here is the Server Configuration
Windows 2008 Server
IIS 7 64 bit
Upto Date patches.
.Net Framework 2.0,3.0,3.5
Need inputs to improve performance when user call website for first time.

We have a project that needs to gather survey data. On one particular page of the website, there are 21 questions each with a scale of 1-5 where the user selects one radio button for each question in the table.
The survey is being coded in VB.NET. The data submits to an SQL database. All the radio buttons are similarly named, so only the number changes for the question -- thinking this would make it easier on the back end coding. In the code behind I was hoping to do something to the effect:

My research tells me that it's not possible to do what I am wanting without some special coding. I've seen mention of arrays in relation to these types of questions elsewhere, but I'm not familiar enough with arrays to see how they would work in this case.
Am I just going to have to create 21 sets of If...Else statements? :(
Here's what the HTML looks like for a question, if that matters:
<tr class="statement220">
<th><label for="rbLWHFQ_Q1_A1">1. Causing swelling in your ankles or legs?</label></th>
<td title="0" >
<input id="rbLWHFQ_Q1_A1" name="rbLWHFQ_Q1" type="radio" value="0" runat="server" />
</td>
<td title="1" >
<input id="rbLWHFQ_Q1_A2" name="rbLWHFQ_Q1" type="radio" value="1" runat="server" />
</td>
<td title="2" >
<input id="rbLWHFQ_Q1_A3" name="rbLWHFQ_Q1" type="radio" value="2" runat="server" />
</td>
<td title="3" >
<input id="rbLWHFQ_Q1_A4" name="rbLWHFQ_Q1" type="radio" value="3" runat="server" />
</td>
<td title="4" >
<input id="rbLWHFQ_Q1_A5" name="rbLWHFQ_Q1" type="radio" value="4" runat="server" />
</td>
<td title="5" >
<input id="rbLWHFQ_Q1_A6" name="rbLWHFQ_Q1" type="radio" value="5" runat="server" />
</td>
</tr>
As an aside, I know about RadioButtonLists, but in this case I'm needing to style the radio buttons in a special way and can't get it to work when ASP renders the list items.
Updated to show I used it in my code I'm not sure how StackOverflow works with regards to showing how something worked for you, but I just wanted to add this in case others come here looking for the answer. Basically, I used the code below:
Dim radioButtons()() As HtmlInputRadioButton = { _
New HtmlInputRadioButton() {rbLWHFQ_Q1_A1, rbLWHFQ_Q1_A2, rbLWHFQ_Q1_A3, rbLWHFQ_Q1_A4, rbLWHFQ_Q1_A5, rbLWHFQ_Q1_A6}, _
New HtmlInputRadioButton() {rbLWHFQ_Q2_A1, rbLWHFQ_Q2_A2, rbLWHFQ_Q2_A3, rbLWHFQ_Q2_A4, rbLWHFQ_Q2_A5, rbLWHFQ_Q2_A6}, _
}
I created an array with the radio button group names:
Dim radioButtonGroupNames() As String = { _
"@LWHFQ_Q1", _
"@LWHFQ_Q2", _
}
Then in my For...Loop I used:
For i = 0 To 20
If radioButtons(i)(0).Checked Then
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue(radioButtonGroupNames(i), radioButtons(i)(0).Value)
ElseIf radioButtons(i)(1).Checked Then
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue(radioButtonGroupNames(i), radioButtons(i)(1).Value)
ElseIf radioButtons(i)(2).Checked Then
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue(radioButtonGroupNames(i), radioButtons(i)(2).Value)
ElseIf radioButtons(i)(3).Checked Then
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue(radioButtonGroupNames(i), radioButtons(i)(3).Value)
ElseIf radioButtons(i)(4).Checked Then
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue(radioButtonGroupNames(i), radioButtons(i)(4).Value)
ElseIf radioButtons(i)(5).Checked Then
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue(radioButtonGroupNames(i), radioButtons(i)(5).Value)
End If

Please bare with me as I am completely new to ASP.net and trying to learn the language (I am a Flash and AS3 kinda guy).
I have a master page template and I'm trying to put a hit counter on the footer for each page. I'm using VB for this code.
[Code]....
And then in the footer div I use this code
[Code]....
It appears my counter.txt file isn't even being created like it normally was on my other single .aspx pages and in turn nothing is being displayed in my Label1.

I have seen several websites that show you a real time update of what's going on in the database. An example could be. A stock ticker website that shows stock prices in real time Showing data like "What other users are searching for currently.." I'd assume this would involve some kind of polling mechanism that queries the database every few seconds and renders it on a web page. But the thought scares me when I think about it from the performance standpoint.
In an application I am working on, I need to display the real time status of an operation that a user has submitted. Users wait for the process to be completed. As and when an operation is completed, the status is updated by another process (could be a windows service). Should I query the database every second to get the updated status?

When user cliick on the control before page fully loaded it goes to error page.
Following is the trace.
Execution Error
Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using <pages enableEventValidation="true"/> in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation.

this works great on my dev machine, but not working on godaddy.com. Every time I clicked on the image, the page is just loaded itself instead of going to the previewphoto.aspx page.

First, my code:
Code:
<asp:Table>
<asp:TableRow>
<asp:TableCell>Name:</asp:TableCell>
<asp:TableCell><asp:Label>John Doe</asp:Label></asp:TableCell>
</asp:TableRow>
</asp:Table>
I want to change the Label Control to a Textbox Control once I've triggered a Button.Click event. So my output will be:
Code:
<asp:Table>
<asp:TableRow>
<asp:TableCell>Name:</asp:TableCell>
<asp:TableCell><asp:TextBox>John Doe</asp:TextBox></asp:TableCell>
</asp:TableRow>
</asp:Table>
The label part is for display the information from the database. I'm using a button as a trigger to edit that label by changing it to a textbox and I'll be using another button as a trigger to save the changes made in the textbox and then changing it back to a label.

I was wondering how I would develop a page that allowed a user to type something into a text box that would show up in a label as they typed. I was looking for this online and found a few options but none of them worked. They included JavaScript, Ajax, and using the text box is onTextChanged command. For an example I need something similar to VistaPrint.
