Web Service Not Accessible From Client?
Aug 11, 2010
I have developed a WCF .NET web service. It has evolved from a console application, hence some shortcuts were taken in VS 2008 rather than establishing the project from scratch as a WCF Web Service.

I've tried creating checkboxes, literalcontrols and textboxes. I need to generate checkboxes dynamically, depending on how many types of <whatever> the user has put in. I know how to do this (I think), but the problem is the controls don't work as they should.
If I create server controls, then for some reason I can't change the value with javascript. If I create client controls, then something appears to happen with the id so the server can't fetch the value (it doesn't recognize the id, allthough it's there in the html)
I can't use a regular checkbox with autopostback because there is to much happening at page load. On other pages on the site, this works, but on those pages the controls are not created dynamically.

I have a simple .Net web service. When I visit the /webservice.svc path in a browser .Net renders a nice help page with some sample C# and VB.Net code. How do I stop this from displaying? Also, is there any way to prevent a request for ?wsdl from returning the wsdl file?

I've created a simple WCF service hosted by ASP.NET web site:
[Code]....
I can add references to this service as to WCF service, as to WebService.WcfTestClient application successfully recognized service and its methods.
But "Web Service Studio" [URL] can't get a list of operations... Why? How to diagnose/resolve that?
P.S. I work under VS 2008 using .NET 3.5

I have a simple ASP .NET web service running and I want call it from a php client. I m using nusoap soap client.
The following is the client side php code:
<?php
require_once('lib/nusoap.php');
$wsdl="http://localhost:64226/Service1.asmx?wsdl";
$client=new soapclient($wsdl, 'wsdl');
$param=array('number1'=>'2', 'number2'=>'3');
echo $client->call('add',$param);
?>
The web methods I have created in web service are as follows:
namespace WebService3
{
/// <summary>
/// Summary description for Service1
/// </summary>
[WebService(Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/")]
[WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)]
[ToolboxItem(false)]
public class Service1 : System.Web.Services.WebService
{.........
However when I run the above php code it does not return the added value of the passed parameters. Instead it previews the word 'Arrays' I m not experienced in php programming. Am I doing something wrong the above codes?

I have a WCF service hosted on an external server (other domain) and I'm trying to consume it from a command line application. I receive the following error:
The request for security token could not be satisfied because authentication failed.
The service is configured inside a web.config file:
<system.serviceModel>
<bindings>
<wsHttpBinding>
<binding name="wsHttpBinding_IRun">
[Code]....
On the client side, I create a custom binding to connect to the service. Here is the security configuration:
standardBinding.Security.Mode = SecurityMode.None;
standardBinding.Security.Transport.ClientCredentialType = HttpClientCredentialType.None;
standardBinding.Security.Transport.ProxyCredentialType = HttpProxyCredentialType.None;
standardBinding.Security.Transport.Realm = "";
standardBinding.Security.Message.ClientCredentialType = MessageCredentialType.None;
standardBinding.Security.Message.NegotiateServiceCredential = false;
standardBinding.Security.Message.EstablishSecurityContext = false;
standardBinding.Security.Message.AlgorithmSuite = SecurityAlgorithmSuite.Default;
I'm not using any security mechanism for authentification but still, the service seems to be expecting one. When working on different domains, is it mandatory to use a basic authentification?
EDIT: I wasn't referencing any binding configuration at my endpoint. Once the reference was set, I received another message error:
{"The message with Action 'http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/02/trust/RST/Issue' cannot be processed at the receiver, due to a ContractFilter mismatch at the EndpointDispatcher. This may be because of either a contract mismatch (mismatched Actions between sender and receiver) or a binding/security mismatch between the sender and the receiver. Check that sender and receiver have the same contract and the same binding (including security requirements, e.g. Message, Transport, None)."}
The issue was caused by my client's binding. While I was creating my custom binding using the standard 'WSHttpBinding', the 'SecurityMode' property was set to 'Message' instead of 'None'. Now the code looks like the following and the service finally works:
WSHttpBinding standardBinding = new WSHttpBinding(SecurityMode.None, false);
CustomBinding myCustomBinding = new CustomBinding(standardBinding);

I have a simple WCF service that I call server side from code behind via a service reference. It's used for validation and works and was automatically setup by Visual Studio and is using SOAP I think because the binding is wsHttpBinding.
I want to use the same WCF service, but call it client side from jQuery using ajax(). I'm trying to implement it by way of these instructions.
But if I make the changes to get the client side call working, I have to add the decoration below which I think will break what works on the server side and also change the system.serviceModel section in web.config.
[WebInvoke(Method = "POST",
BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.Wrapped,
ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json,
RequestFormat= WebMessageFormat.Json) ]
How do I have a WCF service that can be called both from the server-side and client side (jQuery/ajax)?
Or put another way, this may be incorrectly worded, can an endpoint have multiple bindings?

I need to send a X.509 client certificate to a web service in byte array (not attached to request). Besides the certificate, the caller will also send data and signed data. From the web service I can verify if the signature is ok but I don't know what is required to verify that the certificate is ok. I have the client certificate issuer CA trusted in Server (where the web service runs).
More specifically, how can I verify if a X.509 certificate itself is valid? I need to do it in web service not from IIS.

I'm trying to receive a Client Certificate in a Web Service and having some problems.
Client
[Code]....
The certificate seems to be correclty loading and added to the client.
The client connects to the server with HTTPS.
Server:
[Code]....
cert.IsPresent is false and all certificate fields are empty.
IIS is configured to Accept Client Certificates.
Reproduced in two environments:
- Windows 7 x64, IIS 7, VS 2008, .NET 3.5
- XP x86, IIS 5, VS 2008, .NET 3.5
Always in the Web Service the Client Certificate is not proesent. I haven't been able to find any other configuration I should do.

I have a few web servers behind an Amazon EC2 load balancer. I'm using TCP balancing on port 80 (rather than HTTP balancing). I have a client polling a Web Service (running on all web servers) for new items every few seconds. However, the client seems to stay connected to one server and polls that same server each time. I've tried using ServicePointManager to disable KeepAlive, but that didn't change anything. The outgoing connection still had its "connection: keep-alive" HTTP header, and the server kept the TCP connection open. I've also tried adding an override of GetWebRequest to the proxy class created by VS, which inherits from SoapHttpClientProtocol, but I still see the keep-alive header.
If I kill the client's process and restart, it'll connect to a new server via the load balancer, but it'll continue polling that new server forever. Is there a way to force it to connect to a random server each time? I want the load from the one client to be spread across all of the web servers. The client is written in C# (as is the server) and uses a Web Reference (not a Service Reference), which points to the load balancer.

I am having a strange issue in my C# Console Application:
Name Space: WcfConsoleApp
Main Class: Program.cs
Name Space: WcfConsoleApp.ServiceReference
this namespace contains the WCF service reference
After building the project, the Program.exe avaliable in Debug folder is executing fine as expected.But when i move the exe to Client, where i need to actually run this exe, it works fine up to the line where i am referencing the Service, the line is:
WcfConsoleApp.ServiceReference.ServiceClient service = new WcfConsoleApp.ServiceReference.ServiceClient();
the consoel app crashes on the client machine at this line. (i know this because before this line, i display some mesage on the console)the same .exe and works fine at my development machine.I am sure it has to do some thing with reference path, i think the program is not getting to the path where service reference is avaliable. I have copied the full project folder as it is to the client, but still its is not working.

I have consumed an external webservice in my client application using WCF. And every thing works great in my Dev box(XP with IIS5.1)But when the same application is moved to Prod server(Win Server 2003 with IIS6.0) it fails. Below is the exception caught:
There was no endpoint listening at http://MyExternalWebServiceUrlWithSessionId could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.And the InnerException is: Unable to connect to the remote server.My Config file has the below settings:

Here is how my system is set up:
A web service using ASP.Net web service The web service has a web method with EnableSession=true
A client which refers to the web service using "Service References" (note: not "Web References")
The app.config of the client has allowCookies=true
[Code].....
The call to AppendUpload returns false, because of the mismatching session ids. Why is that?
As far as I can see, I have the right attributes for the web method, the client has the correct config, and the same instance of the proxy is used.

I receive the following error, when trying to consume Wcf service:
"An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host". Consuming the service works fine when the host and the client are on the same machine. When I move the client to Hyper-V virtual machine (I didn't try it on a real computer) - it throws the error. Both firewalls are turned off Do you know what can cause such behaviour? Here are the details:
Both the client (hyper-v) and the service are on Windows server 2008 R2
Service url - http://wcftest/CalculatorService.svc (wcftest is the website and is mapped in the hosts file to localhost)
Service config:
[Code]....
Client config:
[Code]....
Are there any configuration settings which I'm missing?

return ent.GetMTSearchResultTest().ToList();
}
when i consuming this in my client application it says error as "The closed type MMRClient.MMRServiceReference.GetMTSearchResultTest_Result does not have a corresponding element settable property." I am getting this error while bind to the grid view as below.
DataServiceContext context = new DataServiceContext(new [URL])); IEnumerable<GetMTSearchResultTest_Result> empResult = context.Execute<GetMTSearchResultTest_Result>(new Uri [URL];
GridView1.DataSource = empResult;
GridView1.DataBind();
Note: I imported this stored proc as complex type.

I was wondering if anything special is required to add a .NET web services to the "Services" tab in NetBeans to allow my java app to consume a .NET web service. I go and add my WSDL (simple method, 1 operation, takes a string), and I continuously get a NullReferenceError as below:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at org.netbeans.modules.websvc.saas.model.wsdl.impl.WsdlModel.getServices(WsdlModel.java:65)
at org.netbeans.modules.websvc.saas.wsdl.websvcmgr.WebServiceManager.addWebService(WebServiceManager.java:142)
at org.netbeans.modules.websvc.saas.wsdl.websvcmgr.WsdlDataManagerImpl$1.run(WsdlDataManagerImpl.java:79)
at org.openide.util.RequestProcessor$Task.run(RequestProcessor.java:1418)
[catch] at org.openide.util.RequestProcessor$Processor.run(RequestProcessor.java:1957)
Is this something common? I'm using Netbeans 6.9.1 and yes, the webservice is a stub that takes a string and displays a static message right now.
