I have created a Custom 404 handler. This page is handled successfully when a URL includes a page (http://mysite.com/baddirectory/mypage.aspx) however when it does not include a page (http://mysite.com/baddirectory/) the custom page does get called and I am presented with a typical 404 message

I'm currently in the process of creating a webshop. This webshop supports theming, but I also want customers to choose a lay-out. I can create multiple masterpages and create a handler to dynamically set the correct master page. But some components, like the shopping cart, are controls which have to be present in the master page and are also used in the aspx pages. The shopping cart control for instance, has an Update method which is called whenever the user adds a product to their cart. So the question is: can I somehow create a default masterpage which has all the components on it, but still be able to create multiple lay-outs. And how should I reference that master page from the aspx pages? I also thought of creating an Interface class which defines the masterpage and it's public components, but I don't know if I can reference an interface from aspx pages.
View 8 RepliesWas looking at asp.net mvc complex routing for tree path as an example of how to define a custom route handler for my MVC app. Essentially, I want to give the end user ultimate flexibility in defining the URL for any given page, so I provide them with a field in the interface to specify their own custom URL.
My custom route handler is basically a wild-card handler. It will do a lookup and if it finds a match, map it accordingly. However, if no match is found, I want it to fall back and find the next rule that matches in the global.asax. Is that possible? Or do I essentially need to code the mappings that used to exist in my global.asax into my custom route handler?

I've created a UserControl that is dynamically placed onto my page during the Init event. It populates and works great, but I'm left scratching my head at how to retrieve data from it during a postback.
It's effectively a multipick combobox that is manipulated entirely using clientside JavaScript (I'm using jQuery heavily). Inside the control container element, I render an empty DIV element that contains all of the selected items. As the user selects items, I generate DIVs within that container DIV that includes some markup. Of interest to me on the server side are the contents of a couple of INPUT fields.

i have a custom handler which captures user's book mark entry. To debug this handler, i have created a file "test1.txt" in code behind which saves the user entry. After the debug, i removed the text file (test1.txt) then re-complied the web app and deployed new DLLs for the site. But, the site is still looking for test1.txt file. i dont know how to confirm if the handler is really removed from the new DLL. Also, looked at the handler code behind file and didn't find any entry with test1.txt. So,

I want to create an HTTP handler within my project. To do this, I created a new class, and tried to implement IHttpHandler.
Each time I do this, I get the error 'End of statement expected'.

I've created a Web application (VS2008) that contains a single Generic Handler (handlername.ashx) and a web.config. I've also added a Web Setup project to use for deployment that uses the primary output from the Handler project. Install works without any errors and all the referenced DLLs are installed in the target location, with one issue. It doesn't install the ASHX file or the web.config.
Publishing the web app to the target location works as expected (includes both DLLs and the ASHX/Config files).
Is there something specific I need to do for the Web setup to include the ASHX/Config files?
I have a new virtual server, subsite. but I get the feeling I may be still be inherting from the root config! Even though I have included <clear/> within both the <connectionString> and <httpModules>.
The main website works (web1) along with one of the subsites (web2) however the 3rd subsite (web3) gives the below error.

I want to create a custom control where I define several specifically named DIV sections. The code-behind logic of the custom control will perform operations on these named DIV sections. The page where the custom control is hosted needs to be able to add named controls to the DIV sections and perform operations on these named controls added to the DIV sections.
Let me explain a little further. In the custom control, I want to have code behind logic that fires the following Page Event and uses a condition to make one or another specifically named DIV section visible or not:

I have currently on multiple pages a modal popup that displays the information below, we are getting to the point where we need to call this popup from multiple locations, currently i have duplicate setups on each page that i want to use it on, but its becoming a mess to manage when a change is needed.. so im looking to see if what i have within the modal popup can be turned into a control that i can call anywhere thru out the site and have just 1 setup to maintain going forward..If its possible to create a control that can then be placed within the modal popup and server the same purpose that would be great any links here is what i have within the modal popup that i have on atleast 3 pages currently..

View 1 RepliesWhen I have a HttpHandler class in C#/ASP.NET mapped to a file extension in IIS any file with that extension fails to download/display in web browsers (it's downloaded as a 0-byte file in some browsers and nothing at all in other browsers). After removing the application mapping for the HttpHandler in IIS so it doesn't call the IHttpHandler class in C#, the web browser downloads the file successfully.
This was tested with an IHttpHandler class in C# that has an empty ProcessRequest method.
I am trying to create a custom GridView with a header toolbar at the top that will contain icons to export the grid view to different formats like excel, word, etc.. The problem is, I cannot get the method to fire that is assigned to handle the click event for the corresponding Image Button. The page posts back, but the code I have in the method to handle the click event does not fire. I have followed examples in other posts and from what I can tell I have followed what others have done.
