DataSource Xml Reads Xml With Extra Letters

Oct 29, 2010

I receive lists from a web service and then I convert the lists to datatable and then I add the datatables to a dataset and from there I get the xml from the dataset where I can save it into a sql database. But the problem is that the xml has /r/n between all attributes and elements. I dont know how to get this out of the xml. Can this be because of my converter. If so can anyone give me a better way to get multiple lists into a dataset.

DataSource Controls :: How To Write A Query Which Reads Data From Optional DDL's?

May 5, 2010

I have couple of DDL's which let user choose couple of different values from it. Once the user has made his selection he clicks on the "Submit" buttion which redirects the user to the other page, which then displays table from backend SQL DB. The pages are named Page1.aspx and Page2.aspx resp. I am using Querystring to carry forward the values of the DDL's to Page2.aspx.

How can i modify the query in such a way that even if one of the DDL's is left blank the Query would ignore that and shall produce the table considering value of DDL2 in the where clause. In case both the DDL's are empty then the query will not have a where clause and shall showcase the complete table as such. I've written a query for this but it's not working the way it shoul.Here is my code for the SQLDataSource: [Code]....

DataSource Controls :: Copy Data From One Table And Insert With Extra Values?

Jan 27, 2010

Is there a way to copy a row from one table and insert to another but at the same time insert extra values to destination table?Let's say source table Item has values:

ItemID
ItemType
ItemProducer
ItemModel

Destination table ItemHist:

ItemID
ChangeDate
ChangeReason
ChangedBy
ItemType
ItemProducer
ItemModel

I want to copy row from source table where itemid is 25, insert it into destination table and add extra values: ChangeDate, ChangeReason, ChangedBy. I tried:

INSERT INTO ItemHist (ItemID, ChangeDate, ChangeReason, ChangedBy, ItemType, ItemModel) VALUES (ItemHist.ChangeDate=GetDate(), ItemHist.ChangeReason="why not", ItemHist.ChangedBy="me")
SELECT ItemID, ItemType, ItemProducer, ItemModel FROM Item WHERE ItemId=25

but obviously it didn't work ("The name 'ChangeDate' is not permitted in this context. Only constants, expressions, or variables allowed here. Column names are not permitted.").

DataSource Controls :: LINQ To SQL Add's Extra Precision To DateTime - Causing Error

Apr 26, 2010

I am having an issue when trying to update a ModifiedDateColumn in the database via LINQ. I am setting the ModifiedDate property (which is a DateTime in both SQL Server and my code) using DateTime.Now. I am getting an error where LINQ is generating too many precisions when generating the SQL to execute. Here is what the LINQ is generating (see @p3 & @p5)

How do I get LINQ to only generate to only 3 decimal places?

Dropdown On Page That Reads A Value From User Session

Sep 13, 2012

I have a dropdown on my page that reads a value from the users session.

ddlMemberGender.SelectedValue = Session("MemberGender")

there are two choices (obviously) : Man and Woman

So when the Session value sets the DropDown to Male it works fine. But if the user changes the DropDown to Woman in my code behind it still reads "Male" as the value... for example:

Response.Redirect("/post.aspx?Gender=" + ddlSearchMemberGender.SelectedValue) will still read the selected value that was set previously instead of the value it was changed to.

Architecture :: Very Frequent Reads To Database Multiple Clients?

Dec 5, 2010

I have a website hosted with sql 2008 database on Godaddy. Here's my problem descriptionbefore I actually begin implementing.Entries are made in a table named "XYZ" by a third party program. Now, there are multipleclients (could be asp.net ajax web based or vb.net desktop clients which I have not decided yet) who
read data from this "XYZ" table every 10-15 seconds. The connection string used by these clients would be same. If I have 10000-20000 clients making connections and querying same table, would that cause any breakdown? Since my connection string is same, connection pooling isautomatically in place.

What else do you think I need to take care of? Or is there any better way to implement this setup?Also, should I go for asp.net ajax client implementation or vb.net(c#) client implemtation ?Your inputs would be highly helpful to me. I am looking for a medium to long term solution to thissetup.

Explain This Seeming Inconsistency In JQuery/Javascript? (trailing Brackets Inconsistency On Reads)

Feb 18, 2010

So, in my example below, "InputDate'" is an input type=text, "DateColumn" is a TD within a table with a class of "DateColumn".

Read the value of a discreet texbox:

var inputVal = $('#InputDate').val();

Read the value of a div within a table....

This works:

$('#theTable .DateColumn').each(function() {
var rowDate = Date.parse($(this)[0].innerHTML);
});

This doesn't:

$('#theTable .DateColumn').each(function() {
var rowDate = Date.parse($(this)[0].innerHTML());
});

The difference is the "()" after innerHTML. This behavior seems syntactically inconsistent between how you read a value from a textbox and how you read it from a div. I'm ok with sometimes, depending on the type of control, having to read .val vs .innerHTML vs.whateverElseDependingOnTheTypeOfControl...but this example leads me to believe I now must also memorize whether I need trailing brackets or not on each property/method.

So for a person like me who is relatively new to jQuery/Javascript....I seem to have figured out this particular anomaly, in this instance, but is there a convention I am missing out on, or does a person have to literally have to memorize whether each method does or does not need brackets?

Web Forms :: Non - Standard Letters In QueryString

Feb 9, 2011

In short, I want to implement a search engine. I pass the search string as a http querystring and my database uses it as a filter in Select. The problem occurs when I enter some non-standard english letters. Let me elaborate: on Main.aspx page, when I click on "Search", a function calls "Main.apsx?search=something". The querystring is passed as a filter to the database which returns values depending on the filter. The database holds correct data at the moment.

After that, I dynamically modify some hyperlinks' url to something like this: hlink[i].NavigateUrl = "Detail.aspx?search=" + base.Request.QueryString["search"] + some integers;. I want users to be able to click on the link to get details on the result. If they click the link, since a new page is now opened, the database has to be refilled (from cache). The same function for filtering the main database is called with a querystring which should be the same as the search string, but somehow it isn't. It looks like something was lost in a conversion or something. If I use standard english letters, everything works fine. I noticed that prior clicking the link the query string had a value like /u0100d for the non-standard letter, but after clicking the link the value had changed to something like /u0ffff. It obviously isn't the same when typing something in the search box and hitting "search", and when putting this search string into NavigateUrl and clicking on it.

Checking 3 Random Letters From A Hashed Password?

Sep 21, 2010

I have a system where I salt and hash passwords before saving them to the database, using FormsAuthentication in asp.net

What I want to do is, rather than ask the customer for their password each time, I just want 3 random letters from their password. How can I compare this to the hash in the database? Will hashing still work in this case? From what I gather hashing is only designed to be a one way process and shouldn't be decrypted, so is checking 3 random letters for a hash even possible?

C# - Create A Process Of Merging Letters And / Or Envelope Templates From Web App

Aug 24, 2010

I need to create a process of merging letters and/or envelope templates from a web app. We are using VS2010, C# (.net 4.0), asp.net, and Office 2007. The user selects a bunch of accounts from a list, and I need to collect the info for those accounts for merge. One catch is that if I look up an account and one of the two account holders has passed away, I need to change the greeting based on that info. For example, in most cases the letter would say something like Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith. But if bob is dead, then it would just say Mrs. Mary Smith.

I also need it to open on the client side in word ready to print. So if the letter is 1 page, and the user selects 100 accounts, the word doc should have the letter merged with the 100 accounts just waiting for print. What is the best way to do this?
