How To Read Part Of The File - Not The Whole Thing

Feb 6, 2010

I'm using the filestream and streamreader to read a file, however I don't want to read the whole thing.
I only want to read part of the file, not the whole thing. I'd like to read up to string "abc123" and then "x" characters after it. I've managed to get the result I want by reading the entire file, then doing a few splits, but obviously, if the string I want to look for happens to be 5 characters in, it's a huge waste to continue reading the rest of the file.

How To Open A File That Is Part Of Solution

Jul 7, 2010

I have a document that I have included in my VS 2010 solution. It is in a folder called "MyFolder" the file itself is called "MyDoc.docx". I've tried the following ways to open the file but none work:

Stream s = File.OpenRead("/MyFolder/MyDoc.docx");
and
Stream s = File.OpenRead("MyFolder/MyDoc.docx");
and
Stream s = File.OpenRead("~/MyFolder/MyDoc.docx");

What is the proper path for this file?

Sharepoint Proxy Web Part - Configure The Web Part To Point To An Existing Web App

Feb 17, 2010

We have several asp.net web applications we've built and we also want to embed them into various sharepoint pages. We need to have them look like standalone applications when viewed in their own pages, but also have them look like they fit within the sharepoint page when embedded. We are doing this currently with IFrames and it works ok, but I'm wondering if there is some sort of proxy web part where we can configure the web part to point to an existing web app and it will proxy the contents through from the web app into the sharepoint page removing the need for an IFrame. Possible?

Security :: Login Part Still Goes To Default .mdf File?

Jun 25, 2010

So I posted earlier on here because I had probelms connecting the login control to my database. All the login controls worked except the actual login. I created a user, that went to my database, but the login part still went to the defult .mdf file. So I have rebult this website from scratch many times. Not a big deal, I'm just starting it. But I'm really confused on how to connect to my database. It seems one way will work one time, but the next time it doesn't, and I have to connect in a diffrent way. And I always get diffrent errors.

Here is what I need to do, maybe there is a easier way of doing this. I already have a 32 bit program that uses a database. I'm just creating a web client to connect to the same db. I don't mind using the default mdf with the login controls. It already there, why re create it.

My thought was to take the asp tables created for the loging controls, add them to my exsisting DB. Point the login controls to my db. Create a realationship betwen the login user table and my user table so when a user logs in, they will see the correct information. I tried to leave the mdf file for the login control where it is, but I can't connect that with my db.

Is That Really The Possible Thing To Happen When Hiding A Datafield

Aug 23, 2010

My code below has a drawback. The scenario is this, i have two user roles - Approvers and Encoders. The encoders are not allowed to view the price only the approvers. Using the code below, i can now hide the Price column. but the problem is, when the encoder modified the quantity column, the Total Amount (Quantity * Price ) is zero. Giving zero value for price. When the approvers view the transaction,the Total Amount is zero. Is that really the possible thing to happen when hiding a datafield?

HTML Code:

For Each colField As DataControlField In colFields
If TypeOf colField Is BoundField Then
Dim bField As BoundField
bField = CType(colField, BoundField)
If bField.DataField = "ReceivPrice" Then
bField.Visible = False ' Hide Price Column
End If
End If
Next

C# - Is Having A Global Config Class A Bad Thing

Mar 6, 2011

Currently in my personal website I'm building I'm using a global static Config class to hold everything configurable I might need to change that is semi-global. So right now it looks about like this:

[code]....

Is using a global config class like this an anti-pattern of some sort? Also, I prefer for my connection strings to be outside of web.config. I like my web.config to be as minimal as possible.

Change File Permission As Part Of Publish Website?

Dec 29, 2010

I am working on an ASP.NET web application in Visual Studio 2005. I am using a trace listener to check the values of variables as I test the web application. Every time I publish the web site it overwrites the entire web site so I need to give my log file write permissions for the ASPNET account again. Is there a way to automate this chore as part of the publishing process?

MVC :: Response.TransmitFile Zeroing Out Part Of The Result File?

Apr 8, 2010

I have an MVC controller that returns a file via the Response.TransmitFile

I works splendidly with small files. I noticed with larger files that after the client app receives the file, everything in the file from offset 10000 (hex) to the end of the file is zeroes. The resulting file is the correct length, its just that everything from 1000 on is zeroed out. BTW, WriteFile does the same exact thing.

C# - Can't Read Excel File After Creating It Using File.WriteAllText() Function

May 27, 2010

I have created an excel sheet from datatable using function. I want to read the excel sheet programatically using the below connectionstring. This string works fine for all other excel sheets but not for the one i created using the function. I guess it is because of excel version problem.

OleDbConnection conn= new OleDbConnection("Data Source='" + path +"';provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;";);

which i can create an excel sheet such that it is readable again using above query. I cannot use Microsoft InterOp library as it is not supported by my host. I have even changed different encoding formats. Still it doesnt work

C# - SharePoint Web Part Gallery Details Of Each Web Part

Mar 2, 2011

When using SPWeb.GetCatalog(SPListTemplateType.WebPartCatalog), it returns an SPList which of course contains a SPListItemCollection of the web parts in the web part gallery. When looping through the items, is there any easy way to get properties of the web parts? Such as AllowClose, CatalogIconImageUrl, etc... I know I can probably accomplish this using the listItem.OpenBinaryStream etc and loading the xml of the .webpart file, but I wondered if there was an easier way to do this.

Read Large File Size Text File?

Jan 17, 2011

I have a text file with tab as delimiter. There are about 20 fields in the text file and the file size is about 150MB-200MB.

I need to filter out each row in the textfile based on its field criteria, For Eg: the i should ignore the particular row if the Field A is empty.

I know that by reading out the text file row by row it will be certainly slow.

how to read out the text file fast and also how to do the file processing for the read out text file?

Databases :: Oracle Store Procedure Does Not Return Any Thing In The Out Parameter

Oct 20, 2010

I am goig to execute an oracle store procedure using C# through through ODP.NET. The store procedure executes succsfully but it does not return any value in the out parameter.

When I execute the same store procedure with the same input parameteres from within SQL*Plus. It does return values.

This is to be clearify here that in the oracle store procedure the data type for the out parameter is number and in the c# the variavle that will hold its value is Integer. I also tried using Long on the C# side but it is still not working. After the successfull execution of the store procedure the C# variable contains nulll value.

Visual Studio :: Output Window Is A Good Thing To Use For Debugging?

Feb 14, 2010

In the past I've created labels on a page that are set to visible when something happens. This has been useful in letting me know when a certain method was called or to help me understand what was happening behind the scenes.

Can the output window in VS be used for something like this? If not is there a different window in VS that can be used for this? If so, what class and methods should be used. It would be nice to have some text appear in a window when a certain event has fired or when a method was called.

DataSource Controls :: Permission To Grant -so That The Remote User Can Do Any Thing To The Database

Jun 19, 2010

the following will clearly show the steps i have taken to achieve a connectivity to database "123" such that the remote user who is using sql login verification can do whatever he wants with the "123" database, and thee remote user cannot change anything of any other database.

?the permission u see granted in the pictures is just guest work, IT WORKS! but i would like to know the required correct permission to grant and not more permissions (to the point permission- DO ANYTHING WITH DATABASE "123" AND THATS IT- DONT EVEN SEE THE OTHER DATABASES)

?how shall i stop this remote user or deny this remote user from even viewing the other databases. a you can see the remote user cannot change anything in other databases but he can see them! I DOT WANT Him to VIEW THEM.

please give your comments and guidence "to achieve the above goals LIKE A PROFESSIONAL WOULD"

and a site link explaining these many permissions in sql server 2005 management studio express would be helpful.
