Intercept Page Object Creation To Hook Up Events
Sep 11, 2010
I'm looking for a way to intercept the ASP.NET processing pipeline in such a way to be able to register event handlers to all events on the Page class. The reason is, I need to maintain a session-bound instance of a component that needs to be notified of all important Page events, starting from OnPreInit.
There's an arbitrary number of Page descendants in the application, which are not under my control. Hence I cannot use an approach like using a single custom descendant, that would notify the session-bound component, as a base class for all pages in the web application.
I don't think creating a custom IHttpHandler or IHttpModule implementation would solve the problem. Also note I cannot create a custom HttpApplication descendant.

I've googled a bit for the exact order of all gridview events relative to and where inbetween page events. The only Microsoft article: [URL] is not very clear. I'm especially interested in the gridview row_command event relative to page events.

i have a e-commerce page which send data to last page for the payment...
In this last page, the user confirm his intention to acquire products .... In this moment, i've created a sub which insert a new order in the database...all works!...
The problem born when i try (and user could too) to manually refresh the page...the code will be processed again and a new (second) order will be inserted in the database.....it's not correct...
This page make a postback after confirm button....so control page.ispostback will not resolve problem...
How could i intercept manual refresh of this page in a secure way ?

My understanding of Factory Method Pattern is (Correct me if i am wrong) Factory Method Pattern "Factory Method allow the client to delegates the product creation (Instance Creation) to the subclass". There are two situation in which we can go for creating Factory Method pattern.
(i) When the client is restricted to the product (Instance) creation.
(ii) There are multiple products available.But a decision to be made which product instance need to be returned. If you want to create Abstract Method pattern
You need to have abstract product Concrete Product Factory Method to return the appropriate product.
public enum ORMChoice
{
L2SQL,
EFM,
LS,
Sonic
}
//Abstract Product
public interface IProduct
{
void ProductTaken();
}
//Concrete Product
public class LinqtoSql : IProduct
{
public void ProductTaken()
{
Console.WriteLine("OR Mapping Taken:LinqtoSql");
}
}
//concrete product
public class Subsonic : IProduct
{
public void ProductTaken()
{
Console.WriteLine("OR Mapping Taken:Subsonic");
}
}
//concrete product
public class EntityFramework : IProduct
{
public void ProductTaken()
{
Console.WriteLine("OR Mapping Taken:EntityFramework");
}
}
//concrete product
public class LightSpeed : IProduct
{
public void ProductTaken()
{
Console.WriteLine("OR Mapping Taken :LightSpeed");
}
}
public class Creator
{
//Factory Method
public IProduct ReturnORTool(ORMChoice choice)
{
switch (choice)
{
case ORMChoice.EFM:return new EntityFramework();
break;
case ORMChoice.L2SQL:return new LinqtoSql();
break;
case ORMChoice.LS:return new LightSpeed();
break;
case ORMChoice.Sonic:return new Subsonic();
break;
default: return null;
}
}
}
**Client**
Button_Click()
{
Creator c = new Creator();
IProduct p = c.ReturnORTool(ORMChoice.L2SQL);
p.ProductTaken();
}
Is my understanding of Factory Method is correct?

I'm trying to better understand the life cycle of an object in the .Net framework. My companies Intranet has some custom classes that were written by a vendor that I'm trying to make some modifications to. Specifically I want to set some variables & hashtables to null when use of the object is done. For now I have this in the dispose event.
Is there any info you can point to that would be good reading on the life cycle of an object in the .Net framework? I.e. what order do the events fire in? OnInit, Initialize, finalize Dispose, etc. I have the ASP.net page lifecycle but I'm not looking for that.

I am trying to incorporate AJAX in my web project for the first time and it isn't working. I don't know how to instantiate a class once and use AJAX to update the dataset numerous times before updating the database changes using a postback.
My project is to learn AJAX with a class object. Clicking the button is supposed to increment a count by one using a class to store the count. Here is my class:
[Code]....
Here is my HTML code:
[Code]....
And here are my button click event code snippets:
[Code]....
My problem is that as I step through the code (after clicking on the second button) it instantiates a new class object each time which returns a value of 2 every time. I have tried to fix the problem by putting my counter class instantiation in the pageload event using "If Not IsPostBack Then ..." but my probem there is that the button click event block of code would not recognize the cCount class - it put the blue lines under the cCount
My goal is to have the class object available to multiple events in the code behind: especially using AJAX to build records in one of my DataSet tables Does anyone know how to handle this?

I'm looking for a good tutorial/article that explains the exact sequence of events that takes place when a page is created. I can never remember the order. I think it's something like the parent controls Init event is called, then the child controls Init event is called, in order of the placement on the page. Also, when the control events are called, what order are they called in? For example, if a button event is raised, does this event get called before a DataList_ItemDataBound event is called if the DataList.DataBind is in the Page_Load event? So, does anyone want to try to explain or direct me to a nice article that explains all this?

I'm implementing a simple HttpModule, where I want some code to run when the web application is started. But I'm surprised to find that the Application_Start event I would normally use from Global.asax is not available from a HttpModule. Is that correct, or am I missing something here?
How do I hook into the Application_Start event from an HttpModule?

new to facebook dev and I have read the basics to get a site up and running using the canvas setup. Nice and simple, I have also got the integration with users working ok (i.e. the signed_request).
I was wondering how it works with "sending/posting" data from one site that is anonymous (my own external to facebook) to the facebook site.
The flow I'm after is a user is looking at some content my site A (my own external site) and then clicks the "share on facebook" button (or whatever), which sends the user (and the data they were looking at) to the site B (my facebook app) to which they authenticate and then (and this is the part I dont get) can see that content on their personalised homepage within site B.
So is there a way to POST some kind of data to the facebook site? Or do I need to do something else here?

Can an IIS 7 module retrieve the server in an OnAuthenticateRequest hook or an OnPostAuthenticateRequest hook?
By "server" I mean the server that the IIS authenticated against (even if it's localhost, for example in the case of windows authentication)

We are working on a SharePoint Site where we have created lot of webparts. Now so far we have been creating SitePages for these webparts manually and adding webparts to those. It takes lot of time in any environment and its difficult to move from environment to environment.What is the ideal way of doing it? How can we automate sitePage creation process and hopefully add webpart to it by some scripts?

I want to be able to do something like display an image for required fields. If the field is filled in and passes validation, the image is replaced with another image. If the field is not filled in or is filled in incorrectly, I want the initial image to replaced by still another. For example, the initial image can be a red star. A green check mark can be the image for a valid field, and a red "X" can be the image for a missed or invalid field.
Another post pointed me to [URL] which seemed to contain my anwer in the Bypassing Client Validation / Special effects section, but it only works in IE!
Doing all my own client side validation is not a good alternative. Does anyone know how I can style anything other then the input control (or the validation controls) when the input control fails to validate and before the postback?

So I have two UpdatePanels. I am dynamically creating server-side buttons in UpdatePanel2. When the buttons come out, they are not hooked to the asynchronoustriggers of updatePanel1.
So how can I dynamically add these triggers of these newly dynamically created buttons so that clicking these buttons will only cause a partial postback to UpdatePanel1 ? Right now, when I click these buttons, it causes a partial-postback refresh to UpdatePanel2 (the panel itself that which the controls reside in)

When a button/link is clicked, I want this URL to be called followed by the execution of the following statements. The ASP.Net page is in C# btw.
Function A
statement A
call abc.apsx
statement B
abc.aspx is a silent page, doesn't display anything on the page but creates an output.txt file. So when abc.aspx is called, output.txt file is created and Statement B is executed seamlessly.

I am feeling that I have terribly wrong somewhere. I was working on a small asp.net app. I have some dynamic themes in the heme folder and have implemented a page base class to load the master page on the fly. The master is having the ContentPlaceHolder like: <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="cphBody" runat="server" />
Now I am adding pages that are derived from my base class and added the form elements. I know, Visual Studio has problem showing the page in the design mode. I have a dropdown box and wish to add the event of onselectedindexchange. But it is not working. the page is like this:
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" Inherits="trigon.web.Pages.MIS.JobStatus" Title="Job Status" AspCompat="true" CodeBehind="JobStatus.aspx.cs" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="cphBody" runat="Server">
<div id="divError" runat="server" />
<asp:DropDownList runat="server" id="jobType" onselectedindexchange="On_jobTypeSelection_Change"></asp:DropDownList>
</asp:Content>
I have also tried adding the event on the code behind like:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
jobType.SelectedIndexChanged += new System.EventHandler(this.On_jobTypeSelection_Change);
if (!IsPostBack)
{
JobStatus_DA da = new JobStatus_DA();
jobType.DataSource = da.getJobTypes();
jobType.DataBind();
}
}
protected void On_jobTypeSelection_Change(Object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//do something here
}

I'm trying to create a page that displays a databound gridview to the user showing them the items being processed. Then the page should immediately begin processing. The problem is that the page never shows the gridview (or any other control) until the process is complete. The process is being sent to a WCF service. I've tried setting the page to async and running the wcf in async mode but the content still fails to display.
