Localization :: Locale Settings Causing Date-Time Exceptions?
Jan 12, 2010
Our application has a database varchar field which at times store datetime values. Code is not formatting the date time values before storing.
Now the issue is coming when we are trying to restore database from our deployment server
to local server and then run the application.Dates are getting stored in format 'dd/mm/yyyy' [ex 31/12/2009] on deployment machine [EN-UK]however when we have restored DB and then try to run application on local server it throws invalid datetime exception, probably because it is expecting
datetime in 'mm/dd/yyyy' format [EN-US] (Dont know why !!).
The code base for our ASP.NET application is deployed into server machines with Regional and local settings as English-UK. However our local servers have regional settings as English-US we changed the regional settings from Control Panel to En-UK however still same error is coming !!

I have an urgent issue with US datetime, in my application I am tring to achieve the following:
1. Enter a datetime in a text box in web form 1
2. Show the date time in the label in the web form 2
3. In web form 2, create a dropdownlist to get a nearest date from database (datatype = DateTime in dd/MM/yyyy) to the date entered from step 1.
In step 1, I am only allowed to enter the date time in US style in text box and I have tried manything like:
- Insert <globalization culture="auto:en-GB" uiCulture="auto:en-GB"/> in web.config
- Set above culture on page webform 1 and 2
I am based in UK, PC reginal and datetime setting are UK dd/MM/yyyy, sql database is in UK.

I have been tasked with implementing a strategy to catch all errors in an ASP.net application which cause a user request or interaction to crash and then e-mailk this exception to a support team in advance of a user calling about the error. Some errors however are not causing the page to crash or be redirected to the custom error page but these are being emailed to the support team instead of simply being loggedMy requirement is to seperate what exception types will cause a page fail and which will not.Example I am currently receiving a System.Web.HttpUnHandledException which is not causing any page to fall over and therefore is not of relevance to the support team. this can be logged but does not require emailing.

I am working on an ASP.net web application, the application need to display text in English, Chinese and Japanese based on the parameters passed, however the culture settings such as currency symbol, time and number format should remain as en-US locale.
My understanding about ASP.Net localization is a package deal, am I wrong? If I am right, the only way to do this is to roll my own solution?

I have this in the system.web section of web.config:
[Code]....
Elsewhere, I have this code:
[Code]....
There's nothing clever going on in the dataset - it's a simple SELECT. Everything works fine when my browser has the default settings. But, as soon as I change the browser language to cy-GB, the line of code above fails with:
[Code]....
I'm probably missing something obvious, but can't see why changing the language in the browser causes a [seemingly] unrelated data retrieval operation to fail.

I'm using MS SQL 2000, VS2008, MVC and C#.
I'm trying to insert and update some data using stored procedures. Some columns are of type datetime. Regional settings on both server and client are set to Dutch (Belgium) This means the default date format is dd/mm/yyyy. When i try to insert or update with a date of eg. 28/03/2009, I get following errors:
Insert:
Error converting data type nvarchar to datetime
Update:
The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value
When I try with a date like 01/03/2009, I get no errors but the date is saved as 03/01/2009, which is the US date format. This is typical behaviour for problems with regional settings. But both are set to Dutch (Belgium).

I am working on a multi-language web site. It is half English and half Portuguese. I have created forms that have portuguese values in it. These forms work perfectly on my desktop. I'm using Cassini as the development server. When I move them over to IIS, they are not loading properly. The text comes up all weird looking. I am declaring the culture in the page attribute: Culture="pt-BR"

I'm building the standard 3-tier ASP.NET web application but I'm struggling as to where to do certain things - specifically handling exceptions.
I've tried to have a look around on the web for some examples but can't find any which go as far as a whole project showing how everything links together.
In my data-tier I'm connecting to SQL Server and doing some stuff. I know I need to catch exceptions that could be raised as a result but I'm not sure where to do it.
From what I've read I should be doing it in the UI tier but in that case I'm not sure how to ensure that the connection to the database is closed. Is anyone able to clarify how to do this? Also if anyone knows as to where I could find an example 3-tier web application that follows best practices that would be great too.

I have several settings in my project area (stored in web.config). However, the scope is not editable and is permanently set to "Application", which means I can't edit them at run time. I would really like to be able to edit these from the web interface. I know that doing so would restart the application (since the web.config was modified), but I'm okay with that, once the settings are written.
Is there any way to programmatically modify the settings in the <applicationSettings><PROJECT.Properties.Settings> area of the web.config?

I am filtering dataview using my Date Column but the result is not proper because the Field value also stores time, so I want to convert this Date Field to only Date during Filter. How can I achieve this? Here is my code. And the actual value I am getting in the Dataset Field "CreationDate" is a DateTime field which is like
2010-01-21 14:35:25.203
2010-01-22 12:55:18.033
2010-01-26 12:10:06.990
But I only want to neglet time value and want to compare Date only.

We have a asp.net application and want to implement logging. The first idea was to use the Application_Error method in the global.asax file.
The problem is that ASP.NET very often seem to throw exceptions internally that are not caused by the application and which seem not to interfer with the users normal workflow. For example we often get HTTPExceptions, UnauthorizedAccessExceptions and others caught in this method, although there is no real error in the application.

I'm using Telerik's RadScheduler Control with WebService Binding.
I've used RadScheduler with Server Side Binding which has an event called "OnTimeSlotCreated" which fires every time when a particular time slot creates so that i can access the time slot and get the control (HtmlTableCell Control) to modify it according to the requirement.
But now i'm binding it from client side through WebService which has no such "onClientTimeSlotCreated" event, also these time slots are not having any identity at client side to access.
