I'm new to asp.net and C# really, mostly just done windows apps in VB.net.
Also, trying to move from Crystal Reports to SSRS.
I found some code to render a SSRS report as a pdf. But this is saving the pdf locally. I have code that opens the report after it's saved, in the browser.
Rather than save the "results" locally, how to I go about just opening file in the browser.
Code:
results = rsExec.Render(format, deviceInfo,
out extension, out encoding,
out mimeType, out warnings, out streamIDs);

View 6 RepliesSo my application is on a production and running smoothly with no bugs at all. yay! My question: Is there's more efficient way of updating an existing ASP.NET application? Here's what i'm currently doing ( dont laugh that's why im asking xD):
1. I compile the project,
2. after compilation i transfer the compiled files via ftp. then i delete the existing files on my folder and put the newer one.
I start a new web site in vs 2005 I went into IIS 7.5 (I'm ont Windows 7 64bit, .net 2.0) , it is setup as an application and the physical path is correct.I'm connecting using a specific user and password. I have set the solution properties to usehttp://localhost/TestApp/, I set a start page as default.aspx. But when I run debug, I get a server error in application, that the resource couldn't be found.
View 6 RepliesI have been asked to use the login control to authenticate users to use the website. I have a master page which has header pictures and a menu down the left. I have created a login form and configured my web.config file to use form authentication but when I run it, it does not show my master page just the content page. Should my login page not be a content page?
View 39 RepliesI am taking MSDN's walkthrough on Creating a Web Site with Membership and User Login. I have some free time and am taking a look at some topics I'm not 100% clear on. So this isn't for a live site; just for my own edification. I set up a user in the web site administration tool then another one in the CreateUserWizard control. I was surprised that in the control it let me create the 2nd user with the same email id as the 1st so I was looking around at how to prevent this. I found requiresUniqueEmail="true" that goes in web.config, in this block:
Code:
<membership defaultProvider="SqlProvider" userIsOnlineTimeWindow="20">
<providers>
<add name="SqlProvider"
type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider"
connectionStringName="SqlServices"
enablePasswordRetrieval="false"
enablePasswordReset="true"
requiresQuestionAndAnswer="true"
passwordFormat="Hashed"
requiresUniqueEmail="true"
applicationName="MyApplication" />
</providers>
</membership>
Which I believe would be the solution. Is that right? My problem is what do I set all those other attributes to in the block? All I really want is requiresUniqueEmail but it seems I have to specify a connectionstring also but I don't know what this would be. The website is using ASPNETDB.MDF which got created in App_Data after I ran the administration tool for the first time (I believe). So I need to explicitly define a connectionstring to that DB now that I want to require a unique email?

Depending on something that I find, I want to give my user a hyperlink that, when clicked, takes him 3 levels deep into the target website beyond the login pageOf course, I could just provide a URL to the top level on the target site, and he would click through to get there. But is there a way, via ASP.NET, that I can programmatically login and then open the page on a separate window/tab?
I want to add a search engine to my website. I want it to handler boolean searches and give me a list of results in order or best match. I need it to be able to work with LINQ, because I want to add additional where clauses to the final query that gets run. I am looking for the best open source .NET search engine that works with LINQ. I like lucene.net but the problem is the LINQ interface (LINQ to Lucene) hasn't been updated since 2008. Are there any good options out there?
View 3 RepliesAfter fresh installation of Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate in lap, I am unable to find New/Open Website in my Start Page and File Menu. See the below image for details.
What should I do to get the New/Open Website back?
P.S: Although I am not sure, I attribute this to initial settings I choose on the first run of Visual Studio Ultimate. I have selected some thing like General Development Settings. Will changing to Web Developer Settings solve the problem? If so, how to change the settings?
