The table has UserId as it's primary key and it's also a foregin key to apsnet_Users. The tables also has an Address, city, state and zip column/field. I have an event that is called after a new User is Created and it is at this point where i wanna write the Address, City, State and Zip to the the database. Forms Data Controls :: Upload Images With Data But Image Url's Are In Separate Db Table?

Sep 3, 2010

I'm making a simple homes classifieds section and when a home ad is created, a HomeID is automatically created for it in the db. I need the images to upload and enter the associated HomeID with each image automatically. What I tried isn't working, because it looks like it's looking for the HomeID in the codebehind before it gets entered into the db.

ASPX CODE

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>"
InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [Homes] ([UserName], [Street], [Details], [Contact], [Phone], [Email], [Thumb], [Price], [Approved], [Posted]) VALUES (@UserName, @Street, @Details, @Contact, @Phone, @Email, @Thumb, @Price, @Approved, @Posted)"

Store Helper Classes In A Separate Assembly?

Feb 21, 2010

I just want to know if anyone stores their helper classes or methods in a separate assembly and why...just for clean management of them? I've seen so many posts about using a helper folder inside your MVC project and that brings me back to the messy old days in ASP.NET where people were using an App_code folder instead of cleanly separating things out physically like this into its own project. And likewise nobody doing real architecture is going to put models in some folder in your MVC web assembly. They would go in MyApp.DataLayer assembly or MyApp.Models or something like this.

WCF / ASMX :: Electronic Store - Two Separate Projects For Entity?

Aug 11, 2010

Nowadays I'm building an electronic store where I work. We have a few other online applications for the e-marketing and e-commerce activities, such as payment forms of campaigns we're spending, various portals etc. There is a common entity in our sites : VISITOR. We save a record for each visitor containing various information. Also, we have another entity - PURCHASE - the purchase of a product. It also exists in some of our DBs, Depending on applications. Today, when I'm designing a new store I decided to get WCF into business.

The purpose is to union all the application workings with PURCHASE and VISITOR. Since there are several applications that use the entity VISITOR and PURCHASE, I thought to develop VISITOR WCF and WCF for PURCHASE. I thought to create them in two separate projects - each one on its own WCF SERVICE APPLICATION, and to invoke them from my new shop as a beginning and in the future from the other applications. Both WCFs will work on the same DB that will contain and work with VISITOR and PURCHASES.

Web Forms :: Prevent Duplicate Entry Into Aspnet_profile Table Through CreateUserWizard?

Jul 29, 2010

Is it possible to setup the CreateUserWizard to check for a duplicate entry in the aspnet_profile table (for a custom field) before the new user is created? For example, if I added a phone number field and wanted to make sure nobody else could create an account using that same phone number if a user already has an account with that phone number in the aspnet_Profile table's PropertyValuesString row?

Web Forms :: How To Store Data In Database / Without Changing Table Structure

May 28, 2010

In my form there are about 6 parameters and two of them have multiple values, upto 6. I'm imposed by the restrictions that I can't change the table structure. The table have 8 fields one for ID as primary key, one for foreign key and other to store data. The two fields which have multiple values are color and size. A size may have different colors and vice versa.

The programmer which have developed the site earlier used a stored procedure to store the data in database. And he implemented the above scenario one by one for each color/size. Now I have to put all in one.

How can I do this. As I can't change the table structure at current moment as this will disturb the whole E-commerce site.

JQuery :: Modified ListBox Not Posting Back Modified Values?

Aug 27, 2010

I have an ASP.Net ListBox that I'm trying to populate via jQuery, using the following snippet:

$("#MyList_btnAddAll").click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
$('#MyList_lstAll option').appendTo('#MyList_lstSelected');
});

The code has two ListBoxes in fact, one a "source" and the other a "destination". As you can tell above the ListBoxes are MyList_lstAll and MyList_lstSelected. These are rendered in the browser as <select> elements, as you'd expect.

The jQuery is working great, the items are moving from one ListBox to the other, the DOM is updated but when I submit this form (not using jQuery), the ListBoxes don't reflect this change on postback.

I realize my modifications via jQuery aren't available in ViewState but I thought since the DOM was updated these changes would be part of the postback data? But in the codebehind after postback the ListBox contents haven't changed. Does anyone know what might be going on and what I can do about it?

SQL Server :: Insert Value From One Table To Another In SQL Using CreateUserWizard Control?

Oct 1, 2010

I am using CreateUserWizard Control to register clients in my SQL Database. I have two tables: Customers and Categories. Customers CustomerID is a foreign key in Categoris. It is also automatically generated when values are inserted into Customers table.Categories tables receives values from CheckBoxList control as CatCodes. Everything works fine but one. When values are inserted into Customers and Categories table during registration, CustomerID is not inserted into the Categories table using the following sql code:

I have tested is in SQL management studio and it gives no error, which means code is correct. Also, following is my full code with code behind to better understand what is going on. It's been a week now I am struggling with this and can't understand why it is not inserting CustomerID into the Categories table. I need it to identify preferred categories for each client.

DataSource Controls :: Store Data From XML File To Table In Database?

May 14, 2010

I am trying to store data from an XML file to a table in my database, but I keep getting the same error.

This is my code from the cs file:

[Code]....

And this is my error:

Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_Areas'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.Areas'.

The statement has been terminated.

In my XML file I have both existing rows and new rows for the database table. I'm guessing I have to do something to sort out the the rows that are not already in the database, but so far I have been unsuccessful to figure this out.

MVC :: Store Model In Separate Class Library- Pass Model Objects?

May 19, 2010

I'm building an MVC 2 RTM app, and I want to be able to share my model across applications. I'd *like* to be able to implement it like:ASP.NET MVC2 app (holds Views and Controllers)Class library to hold Model(s)WCF app to handle the data transactions with the models via different data stores across apps I had the MVC app working fine, but I wanted to abstract the data stuff and be able to work with the model across apps through the WCF site, so I created a class library project and moved all of the Models classes into that and set-up a WCF app, then added project references to the MVC and WCF apps that point at the class library. The idea was I can create services that take and return objects from the model via method calls across apps. It appears that everything's wired up correctly in the MVC project, so I'm passing the objects stored in the Models class library between controllers and views and everythig is compiling just fine, but for some reason the data is not being passed back from the views to the controller on POST -- all of the properties in the classes are null or empty.

When I debug the app, I can see that the values are stored in the model data dictionary but not the model object itself. What am I doing wrong? Am I on the wrong path, or missing something obvious (to some)?
