I am developing a call center application. The way it works is it read records from a database and from these it creates dynamic questions and either textbox or dropdown controls on one of about 5 tabs. The questions can change depending on the previous answers, thats why they need tgo be dynamic. The issue is the postback will loose the controls I have created. I thought about maybe just keeping a hashtable of the controls in the session and then recreating them each page create. The trouble is the page flicker. what the best way to handle this ??? I've though about update panel manipulation but nothing seems to work the way I need it to.

I'm adding a serires of asp:literal and asp:textbox controls to a panel in code as below (the eventual aim being to add only some of the controls depending on the user):

How can I control how the panel is rendered, preferably without having to create a custom control?

I have data in mydatabase. My AnswerText in the database is test1,test2,test3 While retrieving it is displaying as test3,test1,test2. I am using the below code to display the data.
Dictionary<string, string> dicKeyValues = new Dictionary<string, string>();
for (int i = 0; i < cnstsData.Answer.Count; i++)
{
dicKeyValues.Add(AnswerText, AnswerImage);
}
DataList.DataSource = dicKeyValues;
DataList.DataBind();
I want to display the AnswetText as test1,test2,test3. Basically i want the same order which i added to the database while retrieving also.

I have a form in a page and a panel inside the form.The panel gets loaded with dynamic controls like radio button and text boxes.
User is allowed to choose any radio option and enter any value in the textbox beside it and then goes for submit button to move to next stage.
Problem Descritopn:
I load the controls in the panel based on the index of a combo control on the same form.it is done in selectedIndexChanged - This is working fine.
When i go for the submit button and ask for the textbox control, it says "object reference not set to instance of object", denoting that instance is not available. Moreover the panel control list gets empty automatically.

I have the following code:
XElement Categories =
new XElement("Promotions",
from b in db.GetPromotions()
select new XElement("Promotion",
new XElement ("Category",b.CategoryName),
new XElement("Client",b.ClientName),
new XElement("ID",b.ID),
new XElement("Title",b.Title)));
XDocument mydoc = new XDocument();
mydoc.Add(Categories);
try
{
// Load the style sheet.
XslTransform xslt = new XslTransform();
xslt.Load(@"C:WebDesktopModulesPromotionsTransList.xslt");
// Execute the transform and output the results to a writer.
StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();
//XsltSettings mysettings = new XsltSettings();
XmlWriterSettings mysettings = new XmlWriterSettings();
xslt.Transform(mydoc.CreateReader(),null, sw);
String mstring = sw.ToString();
It generates the following string:
<ul id="red" class="treeview-red" xmlns:asp="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ASPNET/20">
<li><span>Arts & Entertainment</span><ul>
<li><span>Client 1</span><ul>
<li><span><asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton2" runat="server" OnClick="LinkClicked" Text="Get your Free 2" /></span></li>
<li><span><asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton4" runat="server" OnClick="LinkClicked" Text="Get your Free 4" /></span></li>
<li><span><asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton5" runat="server" OnClick="LinkClicked" Text="Get your Free 5" /></span></li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><span>Community & Neighborhood</span><ul>
<li><span>Client 2</span><ul>
<li><span><asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server" OnClick="LinkClicked" Text="Get your Free 1" /></span></li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><span>Education</span><ul>
<li><span>Client 3</span><ul>
<li><span><asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton3" runat="server" OnClick="LinkClicked" Text="Get Your Free 3" /></span></li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li><span>Home & Garden</span><ul>
<li><span>Client 4</span><ul>
<li><span><asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton6" runat="server" OnClick="LinkClicked" Text="Get your Free 6" /></span></li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
Now I take the string and add it to a panel which is part of a view in a multiview control: Panel1.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(mstring)); I have tried to play with Page.ParseControl, but I cannot get it to work right in the panel, the linkbuttons do not show, even though the text is there in the source. Now I tried this: Control myctrl = Page.ParseControl(mstring); Panel1.Controls.Add(myctrl); and I get this as the one of the controls:
a id="dnn_ctr954_ViewPromotions_LinkButton2" href="javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions("dnn$ctr954$ViewPromotions$LinkButton2", "", true, "", "", false, true))">Get your Free 2</a>
It doesn't work the way expected, dotnetnuke is doing some nutty stuff here using the parse control. it seems to drop my LinkClicked event.

I am using asp.net panel control in which I am adding two controls(a literal that contains some text and a checkbox) in code behind.
The code is something like this....
CheckBox checkBox=new CheckBox();
checkBox.ID = "chk_id";
checkBox.Text = "chk_text";
pnl_cityNames.Controls.Add(checkBox); //add check box
pnl_cityNames.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("Some Text<br>")); //add some text
and to retrieve I am using this code.....
foreach (Control var in pnl_cityNames.Controls)
{
if (var is CheckBox)
{
int abc = 0;
}
}
When I run this code in the debug mood, It shows two added controls
1.)Text="Islamabad" checked=false
2.)System.Web.UI.LiteralControl
This is what the problem I am facing, it should add checkbox in the same manner as LiteralControl. So I am unable to get any condition to be true when I check the var for CheckBox in the foreach loop.

Im working on app that queries another website, and pulls back an xml, I then populate a result panel with ImageButton(s), and time in a click event, when the image is click I want to popup a div box using the jquery ui, that will show more information, about the picture clicked on. however whenever id this this seems to wipe out my results panel(Panel Control) and the div box never appears and as far as I can tell the imagebutton click event never fires. I've tried doing this two ways one with an update panel and again without, I would appreciate any help on this.Im wondering if I'm doing to much long on my search button click, Im wonder if I should just let the post pack handle populating the result panel and ditch the update panel.(and yes my div tag is set to runat server)I'm also up for suggestions maybe there is a better way to do this, I thought creating hidden div tags for each item, and then running javascript for when the image is clicked and showing it that way, However that seems stupid, in my opinion it seems to make more sense to make my div control once and then update the labels inside it on each image click and then show or hide it.

A simple poll system that loads questions and possible answers.
I load questions, so that each one is generated as a DIV element and placed inside a DIV element already present in HTML markup.
Next, for each question I load answers, generate them as LinkButtons and add them to the corresponding DIV controls collection.
This all works as expected, the questions and answers are all nicely generated.
Now, all the dynamically created controls are placed in a DIV element that is inside an Update Panel.
HTML MARKUP:
HTML Code:
<asp:UpdatePanel ID ="infoUpdate" runat ="server" >
<ContentTemplate >
<div id ="info" runat ="server" >
<asp:Label ID ="infoLabel" runat ="server" ></asp:Label>
[Code] ....
The problem is, that I can't seem to register the dynamically created controls with the UpdatePanel, so when I click a LinkButton it doesn't do a Full PostBack.
Below is the sub I use to generate the controls:
vb.net Code:
Private Sub createPoll() Try
connection = New SqlConnection(connectionString)
connection.Open() ''Get the currently active poll ID
Dim sqlQuery As String = "SELECT pollID FROM polls WHERE pollStatusID = 1"
Dim myCommand As New SqlCommand(sqlQuery, connection)
[Code] ....
As you can see, I tried adding a handler to each control and then adding the control to the UpdatePanel ContentTemplateContainer, but the clickEvent never gets fired.
I also tried adding triggers for each controls, but it made no difference.
I am quite sure this has to do something with the Page LifeCycle, but I just can't see it.

I'm populating a dropdown box bound to an sqldatasource. From the sqldatasource, I'm retrieving locationID,locationType and LocationName.
The locationName is displayed in the dropdown. The selected values is set to, "locationID'. Based on the 'LocationID' the user is directed to a new page.
However, I need to pass the "locationID" and also the "LocationTYpe" values for the selected Name, so the sure can be directed to a specific page..how do I get BOTH values, 'locationID' and 'LocationType' when the user selects 'Location NAme' from drop down.

I'm writing a code for a custom webpart that will retrieve data via data reader or data set (not sure which is better). In the code I will separate data into 4 categories (always just 4). Each category of data will be displayed in a tab panel, so a total of 4 tabs in the tab container. All of this is created dynamically in the CreateChildControls() method. So far I have it working for with one tab and I don't know how to separate the data into the 4 tabs.
Here the what I've got so far (simplified for posting):
_dr = bll.drGetData(id);
Panel panel1 = new Panel();
while (_dr.Read()){
DataList dl = new DataList();
NOTE: This is where I think I need to branch off the data into the 4 categories but I'm not sure how to implement it.
dl.ItemTemplate = new MyTemplate(LIstItemType.Item);
dl.DataSource = _dr;
dl.DataBind();
panel1.Controls.Add(dl);
AjaxControlToolKit.TabPanel tp = new AjaxcontrolToolkit.TabPanel();
tp.Controls.Add(panel1);
TabContainer tc = new TabContainer();
tc.Tabs.Add(tp);
this.Controls.Add(tp);
public class MyTemplate : ITemplate{
ListItemType _itemType;
public MyTemplate(ListItemtype Type){_itemType = Type;}
pubilc void InstatiateIn(System.Web.UI.Control container){
LinkButton linkb1 = new LinkButton();
linkb.DataBinding += new EventHandler(TemplateControl_DataBinding);
container.Controls.Add(linkb); }
private void TemplateControl_DataBinding(object sender, System.EventArgs e){
LinkButton linkb = new LinkButton();
linkb = (LinkButton)sender;
DataListItem container = (DataLIstItem)linkb.NamingContainer;
if(Convert.ToInt32(DataBinder.Eval(container.DataItem, "id")) >= 1) {
NOTE: Although here is where the databinding takes place so I woud assume the categorization the data can take place here as well but I dont see how.
linkb.Text = ...
linkb.CommnadArgument = ...
etc...
}

Now the 3rd step, I want to edit the values from the textboxes, after edit, how do I grab and display out the new values in label and textboxes?

I have a listview that displays a list of textboxes that get created on a button click. I would also like a label to be created next to each txtbox that would increment what is says from step x: to step x+1:
Do I need to create another listview control for this, or is there a much easier way (which I hope)?
Here is the current web code for my listview:
<tr align="center" valign="middle">
<td>
<asp:ListView ID="lvDynamicTextboxes" runat="server" ItemPlaceholderID="itemPlaceholder" onitemdatabound="lvDynamicTextboxes_ItemDataBound">[code]....
And here is the code-behind
protected void btnAddNewStep_Click( object sender, EventArgs e )
{
this.UpdateDataSource();
this.IncrementTextboxCount(); [code]....
EDIT::Since there seems to be a bit of confusion, I'll try to clarify:As of now, I have a textbox in a listview with a button underneath.
________
txtbox
________
_____
_btn_
When you click a button, it generates another text box, so clicking it twice results in this:
________
txtbox
________
________
txtbox
________
________
txtbox
________
_____
_btn_
These textboxes are to create steps in a process, so all I would like to do is add a generated label next to each generated textbox to say which step it is. So I want it to look like this:
________
["Step 1"] | txtbox |
________
________
["Step 2"] | txtbox |
________
________
["Step 3"] | txtbox |
________
_____
_btn_
And if they click the button again, then another label is generated with the text "Step 4"

Consider the following code, adding 2 textboxes with the same ID (oops):
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string TextBoxName = "TextBox1";
Panel p = new Panel();
TextBox t = new TextBox();
t.ID = TextBoxName;
p.Controls.Add(t);
if (p.FindControl(TextBoxName) == null) // <-------*******
{
TextBox t2 = new TextBox();
t2.ID = TextBoxName;
p.Controls.Add(t2);
}
Page.Form.Controls.Add(p);
}
The code is designed to stop adding the same ID twice. However, the Panel.FindControl() method is not finding a control that was added in the previous line of code.
Am I using this in the wrong way?
I mean - sure - I could manually iterate through the controls in the next level, like:
string TextBoxName = "TextBox1";
Panel p = new Panel();
TextBox t = new TextBox();
t.ID = TextBoxName;
p.Controls.Add(t);
TextBox t2 = new TextBox();
t2.ID = TextBoxName;
bool duplicateFound = false;
foreach( Control c in p.Controls )
{
if(c.ID == TextBoxName)
{
duplicateFound = true;
break;
}
}
if( duplicateFound )
{
t2.ID = TextBoxName + "__0";
p.Controls.Add(t2);
}
But I don't understand why this isn't working, whereas Placeholder controls and UserControls work fine.
The reason I am using Panels is for CSS styling. body > div > input - but still - it isn't working.

I got a web page, it has a tabcontainer, within each tab, there will be a gridview, all the tabs and gridview are created at run-time, i have only one code, that I will loop through to create all those tabs and gridview. When I apply the sorting, and I click on the column name on any grid, it returned an error saying index was out of bound. BUT, when there is only ONE grid view created, it is working fine, I suspect it mixed up all the grid view's id and so on. But I have assigned different ID to gridview
