Web Forms :: Displaying A Sql Count On A Datalist?

i added an independent sql count statement in the code behind and want to display the results of the count in a datalist. the query needs a the parameter value of "courseID" to work except i am having difficulty getting the value to string.
the error i'm getting is "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." referencing:
int index = Convert.ToInt32((sender as DataListItem).ToString());
I am creating a web app that using a DataList for display and editing purposes. A datareader is used to populate the DataList. I have the total number of records in the Datalist being displayed in the Footer. In the DataList, I have a checkbox. How can I iterate thru each record in the Datalist to get the number of checkboxes that are checked?

but its not showing proper results..
In this lblCount contains the no of row to be displayed..
i have a seach page of class courses that displays the info of each course in a datalist. I want to have a label that shows the number of persons enrolled in each course by using a sql count. however my code is mess beacuse i'm a newb I like my query to show ONLY the results of count on the lblStandby.

The search works and displays a record if a record containing a keyword exists, I am struggling however to implement a feature where when the search is returned it says for example:
0 news items found
N news items match your search criteria: 'string'" displayed
I want to set my DataList control to have only 7 items visible in each column after DataBind.Let's say' if I have 18 items in the data source; DataList should be rendered as 3 colums.
1st column will have first 7 items. 2nd column will have items from 8 to 15 3rd column will have items from 16 to 18
How can I set the item count per column for each itemTemplate?
My dataset/datatable/sp returns 8 receipt records for particular accountid. I want to display each receipt (record) as ItemTemplate in DataList (with my desired html layout) hence the code above. But i am getting 36 receipts displayed in datalist with some of them repeated.

I derive the list of images as follows have a drodown list which contains the possible filders. The user selects the folder and clicks a button to display the images. On the button click I get the contents of the folder using getfileinfo|(0 and add the details to a datatable. I create a field in the table that contains the path and the imagename (fieldname imagePath)
I have a login control in my login page. The user can attempt to login unsuccessfully for 5 times after that the user account will get locked and the administrator can unlock the locked user.

I know how to store and retrieve images into the sql database. My question in how do I iterate over the retrieved images to convert to a byte[] array and bind to the image control in the datalist?
When a user submits the query to SQL when clicking a button I need to get a count of the number of rows that are returned. Which event does the gridview.count code need to be place in?
Right now I have it in the btn_click event, but in order to get it to count the rows you have to hit the button twice since the query is not returned yet. Here is my code.

I am having a problem with setting up radio buttons within a datalist, ive never done this and i know they require unque names.

I am trying to place a datalist inside datalist. I managed to place a datalist inside gridview but not datalist inside datalist.

i have a datalist . that is contains 7 columns in repeat layout .when i have more from 7 columns , datalist style is normal .but when i have smaller than 7 columns ! data list style is not normal,
because there are some empty columns without specific schema.
