Web Forms :: How To Define Roles Without Using Built In Classes
Aug 12, 2010
i want to create roles for my application. But i don't want to use the built in membership framework. what will be the procedure for that.(i have already created the roles using the built in membership framrwork).
and if i dont use the ASPNETDB.mdf database that what will be the necessary tables that i should create to define that..
i want to add [Authorize] to specific roles; some for registered users and other for admins , but when i have created my mvc2 web application , i can only register new users but without roles and when i checked the aspnet_role table i found it empty, so how i can define admin roles for some of the registered users and the user role for the rename users
How to create/define new roles ASP.NET MCV model?. I am using a sql server database and vb.net. I want to store the roles in database. There is already a table named asp_roles but not sure how to define a new role ans assign is to a user.
I have been using LINQ to SQL for quite a while (about two years). Every thing was fine until now. As usual, I created LINQ to SQL classes and built the project, then created an aspx page. However, I cannot see the DataClassesDataContext in the code behind file. It is not listed in the intellisense list.
I'm running into a weird issue that I can't find an answer for anywhere I've looked (and I've looked a ton).I built a web deployment project with Visual Studio 2008 Team System on my old Win XP machine. This has always worked flawlessly and installed everywhere. I can also copy this MSI to my new Windows 7 Ultimate machine and it again installs just fine.
HOWEVER, when I rebuild that exact same web deployment project on my new Win7 machine, also using VS2008, the MSI will build OK, but when I then run it to install my software I get a dialog box telling me "the installer was interrupted." Interestingly, when I built this MSI in my new environment one additional warning popped up during the build process, which was "Unable to copy the schema file '(null)'"After many searches and reading different web pages, I know this has to do with these two registry keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftVisualStudio9.0DeploymentSchema] "DefaultMSISchemaFile"="c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\Deployment\Vspkgs\..\VsdSchema\Schema.msi" "DefaultMSMSchemaFile"="c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\Deployment\Vspkgs\..\VsdSchema\Schema.msm"
Yet, everything checks out. All permissions are correctly configured, etc., etc. Then, when I enable the built-in administrator account and log in as that, and then rebuild this same web deployment MSI the "Unable to copy the schema file '(null)'" warning no longer appears. Then when I log back out, log back in as myself and then run this newly built MSI it installs fine, just like the original one that was built on XP.I also tried uninstalling VS2008 and re-installing it as the super user, but that also didn't change anything. And yes, I did also configure devenv.exe to run as administrator.
Has anybody seen this? Or is it a requirement that you can only compile deployment projects as the super user? That cannot be right.I've been thrashing for more than five days and for the life of me cannot figure this out. Of course, I can run as the super user when developing, but I thought the new security model in Win7 was designed exactly so you don't have to.
I am new to LINQ. when we drag tables we get a dbml file and designer file.
For example DataClasses1.dbml and DataClasses1.designer.cs.
Once we have them then we can start using our LINQ Queries.
In my company project I do not see this designer files and instead there are .tt files which were used as templates to greate ABC.generated.cs files. Is this same as designer class?
I am following the Nerd Dinner tutorial as I'm learning ASP.NET MVC, and I am currently on Step 3: Building the Model. One part of this section discusses how to integrate validation and business rule logic with the model classes. All this makes perfect sense. However, in the case of this source code, the author only validates one class: Dinner.
What I am wondering is, say I have multiple classes that need validation (Dinner, Guest, etc). It doesn't seem smart to me to repeatedly write these two methods in the partial class:
[code]....
This doesn't "feel" right, but I wanted to check with SO to get opinions of individuals smarter than me on this. I also tested it out, and it seems that the partial keyword on the OnValidate method is causing problems (understandably so). This doesn't seem possible to fix (but I could very well be wrong).
I don't know if this has to do with how FindControl works or how scope works. But my base class is having a hard time seeing the fields of child classes. Currently I'm planning have the derived class set a property in the base class, but there are a lot of derived classes, so that isn't a very attractive solution.
Is there a way I can make it so that a user must meet RoleOne and RoleTwo to satisfy the RoleGroup? By default, if a user is in either of the two roles, they will be granted access. I know I can do this via the code-behind, but I'd prefer to be able to wrap some content template with this markup instead of having to wrap it in a panel and hide the panel programmatically.
i want to implement asp.net role provider to assign users over my LAN to roles and have my asp.net intranet app implement security based on roles.
i dont want to use VS to manage this with the built in tools but rather hand this off to users to manage themselves. i want an admin folder with a page(s) for admin roles to be able to create/edit roles and manage users in roles... this way an admin can add a domain user (MyDomainUsername) to a role such as ProojectManager or Tester or Developer... and users wont need to contact me for these tasks...
can anyone provide me a link (or some sample code) to some sample i can use to admin roles and users over a LAN in asp.net with c#?
I have a multi level application that I am developing and need to block multiple rows from being joined. I know how to hide one role but I cannot figure out how to hide multiple.
I'm curious as to what people consider better practice, between duplicating model structure in the view model and using a mapping tool to move data between the two, or aggregate the model inside the view model, i.e. have a property on the view model class that is a reference to the actual model. Which is considered a better approach in general?
Newb question: what is the standard practice for assigning roles to newly signed-on members. Is it usually manual or is there a way of automatically assigning roles. Being completely new to this, I am confronted by the issue of my site having three different roles that new members could fall into, but am unsure about how to assign each a role. I can't imagine having to go through the process manually if I have thousands of members.
Define Generic in one line / I know that List<string>, Stack<string>, Queue<string>, Dictionary<string, string> & linkedList<string> alls are generic but i want to know its one Line
I'm reading about URL routing at How to: Define Routes for Web Forms Applications and there's something in the example I don't understand. If you look at the example provided below,
I want to define a DataList in the code behind but i don't know how to do it.
I just just know how to do it in the ASP.NET:
Data Source DataList
<asp:AccessDataSource ID="adsExample" runat="server" DataFile="~/MyDatabase.mdb" SelectCommand="SELECT Best4.[Year], Countries.Flag, Countries.ENAME AS Champion FROM (Best4 INNER JOIN Champions ON Best4.CHID=Champions.CHID) INNER JOIN Countries ON Champions.CountryID=Countries.CountryID ORDER BY Best4.[Year];"> </asp:AccessDataSource> DataList <asp:DataList ID="DataList1" runat="server" DataSourceID="adsExample">..........
When i am running my Visual Web Developper, the result is a list of x numbers of three values:
I have a function that sets the Theme for the page but I want to define this in a MasterPage for each page that uses that MasterPage. This seems like the most likely way to do this to me, am I doing something wrong?
Here is what I have:
[Code]....
If i copy this to an ASPX page it works but it doesn't seem to work at all in a MasterPage.
In my masterpage i have already defined metakeywords and description. But for one of my page i would like to define metakeywords and description which will be for that page only.
The metakeywords and desciption defined in master page is for the website.
Where and How to define metakeywords and desciption for any page which doesn't have <head> tag as it is linked with masterpage.
I have a custom CRM package and I need to allow specific users have different layouts on selected screens. I do not want to support multiple software packages so I am thinking that I have some type of interface that allows a user to select what fields they want to input on a given screen. However, what is the easiest way to make this happen? I am thinking that I have some type of XML file that is read that a user can define.
I define Div in my page and I define background image for my page's Body
