MVC :: MVC3 RC2 Bug Binding From Request Parameters To Method Parameters?

Dec 10, 2010

Since ASP.NET MVC3 RC2 I encounter a bug when posting values to a controller method of which one of the parameter is a nullable int. Steps to reproduce:

I've created a test method

In MVC3 RC1 this was working without any problems with the nullable int

I don't seem to have the problem with a newly created MVC3 website. What could I have in my project that influence model binding to nullable int's? And why would there be a difference between RC1 and RC2?

Databases :: Appending Parameters Into Adodb.command?

Jul 21, 2010

When appending parameters to an ADODB.Command should the parameters add to the command text. When I get to the point where it sends to the database the command text of the adodb.command is "{ call PKG_WORKPLAN.ADD_PROJECT(?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?) }"

I then get a ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error ORA-06512: at line 1 error. I think i may be getting it from the question mark.

Also is there any way to what sql is inserted if that isn't it.

Code Gets Compiled In 2.0 And Throws An Error?

Mar 15, 2010

I have web projects build in VS2003/1.1 framework and deployed in a webserver with IIS setting specified to 1.1 framework.lets say project X

I also have another web project which is build with VS2008/2.0. IIS setting - ASP version 2.0 is selected and all pages are assigned to run with 2.0* dlls. Lets say project Y

Now the problem seem to be when I hit project x, sometimes it throws errors like "error BC30456: 'Initialize Culture' is not a member of 'ASP.**"

During troubleshooting this issue, I browsed through 2.0 Temporary ASP.Net files "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files" and found temp files generated for project X. (HUH?)

How/why 1.1 project gets compiled in 2.0 only when it errors out.( or we could put it this way that it errors out every time it gets compiled in 2.0 which it is not supposed to)

I'm confused as to why this is happening when project X has nothing to do with .net 2.0.

Adding this info:

IIS version 6.0

I forgot to mention that project X works 95 percent of the time without any errors under 1.1. This error throws randomly which we could not recreate. The time the project error out is at the same time it gets compiled with 2.0

Preferred Method To Catch Specific OleDB Error?

Jan 4, 2010

- I have a situation in which I must execute a dynamically built stored procedure against tables that may, or may not be in the database. The data retrieved is then shunted to a VB.Net backed ASP based report page. By design, if the tables are not present in the database, the relevant data is automatically hidden on the report page. Currently, I'm doing this by checking for the inevitable error, and hiding the div in the catch block. A bit kludgy, but it worked. I can't include the VB code-behind, but the relevant stored procedure is included below.

However, a problem with this method was recently brought to my attention when, for no apparent reason, the div was being hidden even though the proper data was available. As it turned out, the user trying to select the table in the dynamic SQL call didn't have the proper select permissions, an easy enough fix once I could track it down. So, two fold question. First and foremost - is there a better way to check for a missing table than through catching the error in the VB.Net codebehind? All things considered, I'd rather save the error checking for an actual error. Secondly, is there a preferred method to squirrel out a particular OLE DB error out of the general object caught by the try->catch block other than just checking the actual stack trace string?

SQL Query - The main gist of the code is that, due to the design of the database, I have to determine the name of the actual table being targeted manually. The database records jobs in a single table, but each job also gets its own table for processing data on the items processed in that job, and it's data from those tables I have to retrieve. Absolutely nothing I can do about this setup, unfortunately.

DECLARE @sql NVarChar(Max),
@params NVarChar(Max),
@where NVarChar(Max)
-- Retained for live testing of stored procedure.
-- DECLARE @Table NvarChar(255) SET @Table = N'tblMSGExportMessage_10000'
-- DECLARE @AcctID Integer SET @AcctID = 10000
-- DECLARE @Type Integer SET @Type = 0 -- 0 = Errors only, 1 = All Messages
-- DECLARE @Count Integer
-- Sets our parameters for our two dynamic SQL calls.
SELECT @params = N'@MsgExportAccount INT, @cnt INT OUTPUT'
-- Sets our where clause dependent upon whether we want all results or just errors............................

MVC Custom Error Page (StatusCode 404 Throws A 500)?

Mar 3, 2010

I've got customErrors set in my web.config

XML Code:

<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="/Error/GeneralError">
<error statusCode="404" redirect="/Error/NotFound"/>

This works fine locally. A 404 throws a 404. On the shared hosting it throws up the standard server 404 page unless I specifically set 404 to point to /Error/NotFound. That's fine. Now it will show the custom 404 page except the response status code is 200. So if I try to throw Response.StatusCode = 404; in my NotFound action in ErrorController like this:

Csharp Code:

the server throws a status code 500 Internal Server Error but my GeneralError page doesn't show, just a blank white page with no source.

I've tried many different combinations but I can't seem to find how to make it show my custom 404 page along with a 404 response.

DataPager Throws Error When QueryString Value Invalid

Mar 29, 2011

I am using a Datapager in my project with a ListView control. The Datapager is set to use a querystring value Page, so that a typical URL looks like: [URL]. The problem is that the ListView throws an ugly error if the pageview is invalid (0, for example).

The error is:
Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.
Parameter name: startRowIndex

The error originates in the ListView SetPageProperties method. What is the best way to address this? Can I override the SetPageProperties method in some way, to check the startRowIndex parameter? Here's a very simple page that replicates the error: [URL]. A copy of a simple webapplication project demonstrating the error: [URL]
