C# - Capture Post Data From Silverlight App?

Aug 2, 2010

I use Silverlight 3 and .net framework 3.5. I want to send xml data to server on click of a button. On googling i found that we can use WebClient Class's UploadStringAsync method.

I am posting data to a web service running under local IIS. All that is fine but how do i capture the data posted on the service?

Using POST Or SESSION To Capture Data

Mar 31, 2010

I'm currently working on web application using VB in ASP.NET. Right now I have 1 page with panels that we are using to show/hide depending on the flow. When the user first comes in, he/she is presented with a gridview containing a list of clients. Then the user, clicks a link from a row and is presented a form where he/she can update the clients' info. Originally, I had a HYPERLINKFIELD that put the clientId in the url, then I'd grab the url and do the code appropriately

<asp:HyperLinkField Text='<%$ Resources:Resource, ManageClient %>' DataNavigateUrlFields="CLIENT_ID" DataNavigateUrlFormatString="~/clients/manage.aspx?clientId={0}" />

Now, I'm rethinking that and wondering if it's better to use SESSIONs to grab the clientID via this instead

<asp:TemplateField Visible="false"><ItemTemplate><asp:Label runat="server" ID="hidClientId" Text='<%# Bind("CLIENT_ID")%>' Visible="false" /></ItemTemplate></asp:TemplateField>
<asp:ButtonField Text='<%$ Resources:Resource, ManageClient %>' CommandName="Manage" />

Or use the POST method, which I'm not sure how it works in .NET (but I've used it in PHP)

Mar 14, 2011

On my aspx page I am trying to capture user input and then tried to save them in database and also trying to post them onto another page. Now I am using the following code on the button click event:ASPX CODE:

<asp:Button runat="server" ID="cmdPress" Text="Save"
ValidationGroup="ValidateId" Height="26px" onclick="cmdSave_Click"/>

CODE BEHIND:

SaveCustomer();
SaveRequest();
cmdPress.Attributes.Add("onClick", "update(" + ID.Text + ");");

Now when I click save button then it the page waits and then I have to click again to close the page automaticallly and move to the next page. Can anyone tell me why I will have to click Save button twice to activate the button.

C# - How To Capture File Upload Data From Webpage

Aug 4, 2010

I'm well aware of how to get files from the client to the server using standard ASP.NET techniques, however, I have a need to be able to retrieve data from a third party web page written in basic html and process the file data in an asp.net web application.

So if the basic html looks like this...

<form id="form1" action="WebForm.aspx" method="post">
<input name="fileUpload1" type="file" enctype="multipart/form-data" />
<input type="submit" value="click" />
</form>

How do I retrieve the file data in the page referenced in the action attribute of the form. So far I have tried the code below, which allows me to access the file name - but not the byte stream of the file.

protected void Page_Load( object sender, EventArgs e )
{
string fileName = Request.Form["fileUpload1"];
// No files appear in the request.files collection in code below.
foreach (string file in Request.Files)
{
HttpPostedFile hpf = Request.Files[file] as HttpPostedFile;
if (hpf.ContentLength == 0)
continue;
string savedFileName = Path.Combine(
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory,
Path.GetFileName( hpf.FileName ) );
hpf.SaveAs( savedFileName );
}
}

Forms Data Controls :: Capture Event From HierarchicalDataSource?

Aug 19, 2010

I have a custom hierarchical data source based on the msdn example [URL] An event can be raised in the DataSourceView. If that occurs, I want to display a message on the web page.

The example is that I have a page with a TreeView control which uses a custom hierarchical datasource. If the user selects a node that they are not allowed to select, the underlying datasource will throw and error.

I want to capture this and add a message to the page. The Page_Error event is raised, but there are no eventargs.

Anybody know how to capture such an event?

An alternative approach, although not quite specific enough, is to set a flag during the datasource load event (indicating the datasource is loading) and test for this flag in the Page_Error routine.

DataSource Controls :: Change Data Capture In SQL Server 2008

May 29, 2010

I was reading about "Change Data Capture" functionality in SQL Server 2008. It sounds awesome. My implementation of it would be in a website environment where ASP.NET pages use SQLDatasources to do inserts, updates and deletes. When enabling "Change Data Capture" can you store additional information supplied from the website like a UserID, SessionID, UserRole etc so you can identify who did the insert, update or delete? Forms Data Controls :: How To Capture A DropDownList Selected Index Change Event

Sep 15, 2010

I have a gridview that receives data based on selection from a primary dropdownlist object. Works.

Within the gridview, there is a dropdownlist whose selected index is based on the query from the primary dropdownlist. Works.

Problem.

How do I force the used to change whatever value that the dropdownlist contains after they make their initial selection from the primary dropdownlist; except the default value of "make a selection".

Gridview, contains a checkbox which drives whether a selected row is inserted into the data base. The databind in done using an ObjectDataSource on the presentation page, not in the code behind.

Accessing Silverlight Object Data From Aspx Page?

Jul 29, 2010

I am new to silverlight and I am wondering if it is possible to access silverlight object data from the aspx page that host it. Or have silverlight write to a hidden field on the page on client side.

What I am trying to do is to use silverlight to upload file via WCF (client to WCF Service directly instead of posting data back to the web server then forwarded to WCF service). When uploading a large file, user can still do some data entry etc. And once the upload is done have it write some data return by the WCF service to the aspx's hidden field and postback to the server on submit.
