Configuration :: Trying To Make A Program Work With Our IIS Server?

Feb 02, 2011 08:04 PM

I have been trying to make a program work with our IIS server, but it's run into a tricky problem that's been driving me nuts. When I debug the program, everything works perfectly; users are able to log in and they see the appropriate content according to the user's role. When logging in from a remote location, however, the program seems to have trouble finding the users' roles. Users can log in, but they cannot see any role-specific information, so they are stuck on the login page forever.

I tried adding a line of code to find the roles of a particular user. In debug mode, it returned the roles correctly, but when accessed through the server, it returned an empty array that caused my site to crash.

Configuration :: Subdomain Behavior Changed From 3.5 To 4.0?

Aug 30, 2010 03:24 AM

I upgraded from 3.5 to 4.0 and noticed links in my subdomain behave differently - they still work, but add a redundant folder - for example: In 3.5 it was: The code is thus: asp:HyperLink NavigateUrl="~/mypage.aspx"... The sub folder is a root in IIS7. Is there some way to avoid the second /sub/ showing in the broswer address bar so it looks like it used to in 3.5? Is there something I should place in my 4.0 web.config file?

Configuration :: How To Read Configuration Settings Of Web.config Using Javascript

Apr 30, 2010 02:22 PM

Web.config is the main settings and configuration file for an ASP.NET web application. The file is an XML document that defines configuration information regarding the web application. The web.config file contains information that control module loading, security configuration, session state configuration, and application language and compilation settings. Web.config files can also contain application specific items such as database connection strings

Example 1:

<!-- This is an example Web.config file -->

In this article, we will see how to read the configuration settings in the web.config using 'JavaScript'.

Step 1: Create a new ASP.NET website. Add a button control to the Default.aspx.

Step 2: Right click the project > Add New Item > Web Configuration File

Add the following sample entry to the appSettings section in the web.config between the <configuration> tag as shown in the example 1:

<add key="var1" value="SomeValue"/>

Step 3: To read these entries using JavaScript, add the following script in the <head> tag of your Default.aspx page as shown below:

<head runat="server">
<script type="text/javascript">
function ReadConfigSettings()
var v1 = '<%=ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["var1"].ToString() %>'
Step 4: Call this function on a button click and display the values of the configuration settings

<input type="button" value="Get" onclick="ReadConfigSettings();" />
That's it. Run the application and click the button. The value of the key in the appSettings will be displayed in the alert window. I hope you liked this short article.

Configuration :: 2.0 RTM - Unable To Encrypt Custom Configuration Section

My web.config looks like that:

When I try to encrypt the Section1 section (aspnet_regiis.exe -pe Section1 /App) it fails with :

An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for Section1: Could not load type 'Namespace1.Section1' from assembly 'System.Web, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'.

Some remarks:

-Namespace1.Section is located in an assembly referenced by the my webapp, with copy local enabled (not in the GAC)

-The unencrypted version of my application works well, especially as it concerns custom configuration section use.

-This syntax worked well with Beta 2 version

-I've no problem encrypting standard .net configuration section (appSettings for example).

Configuration :: Application Configuration With Sticky Session On WebForm

Dec 08, 2010 05:25 PM

We are going develop a web application using This applicaton is going to server 50 users per day and 40 users concurrently. As the user count is less, we are planning to have two webservers clustered under a webfarm. We are planning to go for a Sticky Session. Netscaler is the load balancing and reverse proxy we are using at hardware level to route to the same webserver till the end of the client session.

1. Do I need to implement any handler at level to route the session or to provide browser cookie details of session to NetScaler? If so, what should be implemented in detail. Any sample code will also be helpful.

2. I need to maintain a big chunk of object information in session. Does a webserver can handle it?

3. At the hardware level how ReverseProxy works to navigate it to the same webserver? I want conceptual details of it from a web application end.

Configuration :: File Not Been Precompiled

Jan 17, 2011 03:47 AM

I currently use Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0. I have been precompiling my site regularly for several years before uploading to our production or distribution server, using aspnet_compiler.exe, and have had no problems. When I tried to precompile and upload a few days ago, I got the following error message when I try to acccess one particular page (the rest of the site works fine):

The file '/Library/LibraryHome.aspx' has not been pre-compiled, and cannot be requested. The only significant change from the previous time I precompiled was that I had installed the AJAX Extensions and tried to use one of the controls on a page in the /Library folder (not LibraryHome.aspx but a different page). I eventually gave up on that control and removed it from the page, so there is no AJAX in the site.

I read in various forum posts regarding this error that it often occurs when one or more assemblies are missing when the site is uploaded. When I precompile, I completely empty the folder that it's going to compile into, and then when I upload the site to our production server, I delete everything in that folder also. I cannot find any assemblies that are missing. Everything in the bin folder of my local version of the site exists in the bin folder of the compiled version. I even uninstalled the AJAX Extensions, but nothing I've done removes this error message. I've checked the listing of assemblies in web.config and don't see anything it's calling for that isn't in the compiled site.
