I am trying to handle the unhandled exceptions in my project.I tried with this following code in my web.config filebut it is not at all redirecting to an error page which i have created instead of that it is throwing an exception in my code itselef. How to print the error description over therein my custom error page.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<sys.web>......<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="~/Error.aspx"></customErrors>...</sys.web>
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And even i tried in Global.asax page in Application_Error() method like below
 Exception ex = Server.GetLastError();Response.Redirect("~/Error.aspx?errmsg="+ex.message);Server.ClearError();
And in my Error.aspx.cs page i have placed a label and i have written code like this
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)Â Â Â Â Â Â Â {
        Label1.Text=Request["errmsg"];
     }
But it is not getting redirected my error page and not displaying anything on it.

Basically I want to take the following:And make it match the styling of the rest of the application.I am creating a custom error page in my C# based project and I want it to be able to show the same information that is displayed in the ASP.NET default error page. From fiddling with reflector I can see that this is generated through HttpException.GetHtmlErrorMessage() but when I try to use this in my exception it returns null.

i would very much like to capture certain dal/bll exceptions in my page_error code and turn them into validation errors so they should show up in the validationsummarythis is the code im trying now
[Code]....
the logic is simply to catch only exceptions of type ArgumentException, otherwise it should bubble up (to global.asax handling)what hapens is that after this code block runs, the exception still exists in the system, so it always bubbles up to the global.asaxit there any way to tell asp.net that "its ok, i took care of the exception, just continue with the page"?i tried server.clearerror and context.clearerror but these methods stop the whole page and return a blank empty pagethank you all for your time and patiencep.s. if u have any other ideas 4 improving this code,

For certain parts of the site the allow inserting and updating of data we have some try / catch logic in place.. Now we would like to display a custom error page explaining what didnt happen. Instead of just a generic message that says error occurred. Here is 1 error that is generated due to Primary Key constraints, we woudl like to redirect them to our error.aspx page which is already setup and configured in the web.config but within that page display a more user friendly detail message of why they got the error. In the example below, we may want to say, "There was an error with the "Access Insert" please make sure that the values you entered on the previous page are unique" thats just an example, but gives an idea of what we are trying to do.

[URL] Using the above url as a reference, I can see ELMAH should display the Original ASP.NET error page when the error originates from the View. I have created the following view to generate an error, but the only exception views are Raw/Source data in XML or in JSON.
@{
ViewBag.Title = "ViewError";
}
<h2>View Error</h2>
@{
throw new NullReferenceException();
}
Is it possible to view the Original ASP.NET error page in MVC3?

I have a data driven asp.net website with frames on the top, left, right and center screen. If a page generates an error on any of the frames, I want to redirect the whole site back to the Default.aspx. Currently, when a frame page errors in one of the frames, that frame gets the error pages. Site is URL.... Is this something that can be handled?

I have a serious problem with "Error on Page". The error message points to line number 939, char 13. In my code behind (C#) in line number 939 is only an obsolete method found which is no longer called. The aspx file has only 339 lines. What the heck is line number 939?The Webapplication allows a special user group to change some group memberships for members of another user group in Active Directory. The App handles 3internal DataViews derived from corresponding DataTables as DataSource for 3 GridViews and some other internal lists with objects (List<obj>).
It uses windows authentication to get current users credentials and his membership in the "Operators" group. This credentials will be passed-through to allow the process managing group memberships in active directory.After starting the App in browser it seems to work fine. But after an indeterminated time it doesn't longer respond. After each click on buttons (or link buttons) you only can see the message "Error on Page" in the browsers status bar below.I played with session timeout, storing the DataTables in session variables, without success.
Last week I found this article here: [URL]" and I addedEnableEventValidation="false" ViewStateEncryptionMode="Never"
to Page declaration. However, at some point the the server does not respond. Each time the worker process on webserver recycles it seems the application turn to wrong state. Might be important: All controls including GridViews are embedded in an AJAX UpdatePanel. How to get a better error message? Debugging is enabled and Custom Error handling On, Off or Remote Only brings the same result as described.

I'm having a wicked time trying to redirect the different error scenarios to a custom error page. Basically, I have put some code in Application_Error in global.asax, and done the necessary web.config settings to use Custom Errors.
In global.asax on Application_Error, I stored the Server.GetLastError in Session. The reason I have to store it in Session is because (as far as I know) you lose the exception when using "ResponseRedirect". And the reason I have to use ResponseRedirect is because I am using an UpdatePanel with AJAX calls, and any exception during the AJAX call shows up as a JavaScript error, and doesn't get handled using the custom error page (see this post).
void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e){ ////must perform this check to avoid the "Session state is not available in this context" errors if (HttpContext.Current.Session != null) { Session["LastException"] = Server.GetLastError(); } else { // (I think this happens when there are compile-time errors) Server.Transfer("~/Oops.aspx"); }}void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e){ //must perform this check to avoid the "Session state is not available in this context" errors if (HttpContext.Current.Session != null) { //initialize the session (http://forums.asp.net/t/1405077.aspx) Session["LastException"] = ""; }}

All the examples and websites i have looked at redirect a user to the error.aspx page when an error occurs. How do you just display a friendly error message on the page the user is viewing saying something like "Sorry unable to do whatever" I've tried using a try catch block on my class that executes a stored procedure and put another try catch on the controller, but this does not work and i still get the default error message (System.InvalidOperationException was unhandled by user code) My code is below:

So how can i just return ViewData["SqlError"] message in page.

I have the following problem with a slideshow in Ajax. Hope I have put it in the right Ajax forum. Some info: I do use MS Access and in the 'autos table' i do have the following fields:
field 1: nummer (text field) - this is the name of the image
field 2: cat (integer) - this is the category of the cars
field 3: naam (text field) - this is the name of the car
field 4: model (text field - this is the model of the car
In my masterpage i do have a menu where you can make the choice of a certain category of cars. This is done by a call to: slideshow.aspx?cat=100 In Slideshow.aspx a panel is setup and also buttons to manipulate the found images. Also the AjaxToolkit:Slideshowextender is defined as follows:
<ajaxToolkit:SlideShowExtender ID="SlideShowExtender1" runat="server"
TargetControlID="Image1"
SlideShowServicePath="slideservice.asmx"
SlideShowServiceMethod="Getslides"
AutoPlay="true"
ImageTitleLabelID="Name"
ImageDescriptionLabelID="Desc"
NextButtonID="NextButton"
PlayButtonID="PlayButton"
PlayButtonText="Play"
StopButtonText="Stop"
PreviousButtonID="PrevButton"
PlayInterval="4000"
Loop="true"
ContextKey="catid" />
As you can see the contactkey is also defined.
Inside the codebehind of slideshow.aspx.vb their is a sub defined:
Partial Class Slideshow
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
SlideShowExtender1.ContextKey = Request.QueryString("catid")
End Sub
End Class
The call from slideshow.aspx is to a slideservice.asmx which contains:
<%@ WebService Language="VB" CodeBehind="~/App_Code/SlideService.vb" %>
Here we call slideservice.vb.
The coding of the slideservice.vb file is:

Imports System.Web.Services
Imports System.Web.Services.Protocols
Imports System.Data.OleDb
Imports System.Web.UI.Page

End While

'and add the parameters to it for the category

Dim i As Integer
For i = 0 To photoCounter - 1
thisReader.Read()
Dim number As String = thisReader.GetString(0)
Dim name As String = thisReader.GetString(1) + " - " + thisReader.GetString(2)
MySlides(i) = New AjaxControlToolkit.Slide(("pictures" + number + ".jpg"), name, "")
Next

Else

Dim MySlides(0) As AjaxControlToolkit.Slide
MySlides(0) = New AjaxControlToolkit.Slide("pictures99999.jpg", "Exception error", "pls. mail us to report")
Return MySlides
Finally
cn.Close()
End Try
End Function
End Class
When i run the code i will get an exception error and when following the code in debug mode i do see that inside the first loop in FOR i = 0 to photocounter - 1 : The first loop gets the right info from the database inside Myslide(1) fields. Going into the second loop i will get after dim name as string .....
the program goes to catch x as exception. I did see that number was found correctly during the previuous line. During an other debug session i noticed that the Parameter.item has the following error (which I do not understand), saying: Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'Item´ accepts this number of arguments.

A developer has created a custom control in ASP.NET using VB.NET. The custom control uses a repeater. In certain scenarios, the rpt_ItemDataBound event is encountering a data error. My goal is rather than having the user see the yellow screen of death, give the user a friendlier error explaining exactly what the data error is. I figured I would be able to use a Try/Catch block as shown below throw the exception, however, it appears that the event has nowhere to be thrown to and stops executing at the "End Try" line.
Protected Sub rpt_ItemDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.RepeaterItemEventArgs) Handles rpt1.ItemDataBound, rpt2.ItemDataBound
Try
ProcessBadData...
Catch ex As Exception
Throw ex
End Try
End Sub
In VB.NET, I can find where the repeater's DataSource is being set, however, I can not find a DataBind event. how I can capture the exception in this ASCX control so I can report it to the user? Edit: The stack trace looks like this. There is another repeater within the repeater that is actually causing the error (rptOther) and I'm able to catch the error, but I can only throw it to the rpt_ItemDataBound. I can't figure out how rpt_ItemDataBound is getting called without a DataBind event.

I have introduced site wide exception handling on my site to catch unexpected errors. The event handler sends a message to me when such an exception occurs. But the problem is that any clicks on my site will cause an exception to be thrown with the message: "This is an invalid webresource request."
I googled for an answer and only found a couple of references to 1. setting a fixed machinekey (which for some reason didn't work for me, I got an error saying that the virtual directory wasn't set in IIS, and as far as I know I'm not using IIS at all, I'm using the local development environment and then deploy to a web host) or 2. using a robots.txt file to stop robots from accessing the axd files, but that doesn't help either because it's not robots that cause the problem, anyone clicking around on the page will cause this error. how to solve this problem properly? For now I have handled it by catching and ignoring this particular error by the text in the error message, which works but I would rather fix it so that this error doesn't occur at all.
