MVC :: Example Of Quick And Easy Domain Model That Is Persistable With NHibernate
Sep 14, 2010
am looking for the best approach to using NHibernate and MVC.net. I have gone through http://www.codeproject.com/KB/architecture/NHibernateArchitecture.aspxSomeone has pointed to the use of Castle project Active record. My aim is to eliminate the need for any nhibernate dependencies within my domain. I want a quick and easy domain model that is persistable with NHibernate.

Is it possible (in a clean fashion) to create an audit interceptor in hibernate 2.1 and pass in a domain context to it?What I would like to achieve is to set a Date Time (can be done easy peasy - found loadsa articles after a quick google), but setting an object e.g. a user who created the item, or altered an entity I have yet to find anything which covers this.Since I will not know the object at application request/start up (which is where i have to register the nhibernate interceptor), does anyone know of a suitable workaround?

Say I got a domain model as follows: (and my repository expect an instance of this object)
[Code]....
And a view model (which my views are based on)
[Code]....
At the moment I got it like this and have my controller action manually create a new Person object from the PersonModel object before passing it on to the repository, which does not feel right.
So I tried to have PersonModel inherit from Person and pass that to the repository (also tried casting the PersonModel to a Person object first), but that don't work out.
What's the right way to have PersonModel automatically cast to Person? I want to keep this logic as my current structure allow me to keep things really loosely coupled, with the repository layer not having a clue how it's being used.

What is the best way to design the Domain objects which can have multi-lingual fields. An example can be a Product class with Description being multi-lingual.
I have found few links but could not decide which one is the best way.
http://fabiomaulo.blogspot.com/2009/06/localized-property-with-nhibernate.html
(This stores all localised language data in one field. Can be a problem if we query from Sql)
http://ayende.com/Blog/archive/2006/12/26/LocalizingNHibernateContextualParameters.aspx
(This one has a warning at the beginning that it is a hack and no longer supported)
http://www.webdevbros.net/2009/06/24/create-a-multi-languaged-domain-model-with-nhibernate-and-c/
(This does not describe how multilingual data will be structured in the database.)
Anyone having experience with using NHibernate with multi-lingual data.

know whats is happening and why its throwing an error (it does not find GetBrokenRules method because its List) but the reason i posted this question here is to ask for a better design, can anybody guide me here please?i am working on Facilities class (List..../Building/Floor) rror:Error 3System.Collections.Generic.List' does not contain a definition for 'GetBrokenRules' and no extension method 'GetBrokenRules' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

Out of good design practice and organization, in which project should a local development SQL database be in a web based application? I'm just starting my assignment so I currently have 'CompanyName.Web.UI' and 'CompanyName.Domain' projects setup. Im using LinqToSql and creating my database from POCOS, meaning I'll have to create some code to generate the DB from my domain model. I.e.
DataContext dc = new DataContext(connString);
dc.GetTable<TableType>();
dc.CreateDatabase();

I'm using Entity data model to reflect my database and I generate Domain service from my Entity data model.I understand that if I have changes in my database, I can just choose "Update Model from Database", but there is no "Update Domain service from Model" option available.How should maintain my domain service? I'm not going to delete away it and regenerate it whenever there are some changes, right?

I'm doing a contract for asp.net. The owner wants it done in 2 - 3 months.Would it be worth it starting him in MVC and could I get it completed in time? It's a web page with a few modal popup extenders and about 3 grids.Is it possible to get it done with the boss very happy or should I write old web forms, and just write it clearly so it can be upgraded later?I can't miss a deadline and even though I love MVC, I kinda think I should wait until the first project is done cleanly. I haven't made an actual ASP.NET MVC app yet.

We are in the process of implementing a CMS for our project which currently extensively uses asp.net master pages and css. Also the application is data-driven and controls like gridview and listview are used. After a little search we zeroed on two CMS dotnetnuke and umbraco. Now my question is:
Which one of the two CMS is best suited and easy to use?
Do they support integration of existing code and UI's
provide links for further reference.

I have a listbox on my site that is populated with data. I then have a textbox that is used to enter a search phrase and with each letter that is added the listbox is narrowed down or repopulated using javascript. I use one listbox to store all the items and a secondary showing the listing results. This makes it east to check against all items and then populate the second listbox with all the results according to the search.
Currently this process can cause a delay in updating the listbox (eg when the textbox is emptied all the items need to be repopulated from the listbox with all the data).
What is a quick and efficient way to perform this listbox search?

I have been using asp.net programming just from few months and I have to maintain an application that is made up of many aspx webforms with updatepanels.One of the task of the maintenance is to integrate some of the JQueryUI widgets (mostly datepicker, tabs and buttons).I am experiencing some problems on doing this smoothly expecially when the controls are Inside an update panel Generally inside any templated control (e.g. Wizard control)
For example this very simple code:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#myTabs").tabs();
[code]...
will immediately cease to work if placed inside an update panel.Do there is a solution regarding this issue or I have to follow a completely differnt approach? Do I have to substitute all the updatepanels?And what is the best alternative to this easy to use control?

This seems like it should be easy..... I am pulling some results from a database and then comparing them to a checkboxlist ... if a checkbox item within a list of checkboxes is within this result list, then I want to check that box...this is an 'easy' version of what I am trying to do...

I've got an ASP.net file, and I'm trying to include dynamic code which was easy in classic ASP.
Here is what I have tried so far:
<%@ Register TagPrefix="TagPre" TagName="header" Src="alg/classes.aspx"%>
and
<!--#include file="alg/classes.aspx"-->
But neither of these seem to work. The content of classes.aspx is:
<script runat="server">
' Square class
Public Class square
Public sqRows As Integer 'Numbers of rows this square has
Public sqCols As Integer 'Number of columns this square has
Public sqArray(,) As Integer 'The square array
' Initialise square array to match size of canvas
Public Sub initSqArray(ByVal canvCols, ByVal canvRows)
ReDim sqArray(canvCols, canvRows)
sqRows = canvRows
sqCols = canvCols
End Sub
End Class

I have an asp.net app consisting of about 15 aspx pages and 30 or so user controls. For the most part it is just a basic CRUD layer on top of a database, so it consists mainly of edit forms and datagrids.
All of my edit forms are laid out in fieldsets, and I am using plain asp:GridViews for my tables (they render to an html table). Some forms are in serious need of tabs to lay out the elements. I'd really like to be able to style my GridViews with a fixed header and vertical scrollbars.
I have to do a demo in a few days but the problem is, there is no styling whatsoever applied to the html (no classes defined within the html, no CSS at all), and I am very weak with CSS.
So considering my predicament, can anyone offer some advice on how I could get this looking presentable in a very short period of time?
Is there such a thing as pre-existing decent generic CSS files I could download and drop on top of this app that could apply an attractive and consistent look and feel to most elements? Would http://jqueryui.com/ be useful in this particular situation?[URL] looks very attractive, can anyone comment on how easy it would be to globally wire all of my GridViews up with that?

My feeling says it's not posible but anyway I am curious if there is at least a workaround for accomplish this.Basically I am working at my client site and my machine is not connected to the domain.What I want to do is running a web application locally under a domain account, and using the webdev server.The webapp uses the default authentication, windows authentication that is.I tried using impersonation with domainuser & password but I got the following error Could not create Windows user token from the credentials specified in the config file. Error from the operating system 'Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.I have to mention that the username and the password are correct.
