I am having trouble with the with mvc2.
I am using the Entity Framework as my ORM. I have used the POCO Entity Generator to create POCO objects. I moved the generated objects to a separate project. I followed steps outlined here(Tutorial). This is my project structure
Sports.Data - Entity Frmework and Data Access
Sports.Entities - The poco objects generated and buddy classes
Sports.Web - The web application
In the Sports.Entities project I have created buddy classes for the generated pocos.
The problem I am having is that the attributes are being ignored by the mvc. The validation is not working and the correct label text is not being displayed. Instead of 'Shirt Size', 'ShirtSize' is displayed.
Here is the code.
<div>
<%: Html.LabelFor(m => m.Player.ShirtSize)%>
</div>
<div class="editor-field">
[Code]....
how do i get the [Display(Name="Some Title")] DataAnnotations "Some Title" rendered in the List scaffold view's output?
I create a strongly typed list scaffold view for this class:
public class CompanyHoliday
{
[Key] [code]...
However i don't want "Date" and "Name" in the table header - i want "Datum" and "Feiertag Name" rendered there dynamically. The actual column header titles should come from the Display Dataannotation.
I stored string in Variable then i assigned that value to TempData like this ,
String securityques = "Whats ur name";
TempData["SecQuesti"] = securityques;
When i use this code <%: TempData["DisplayName"]%> to display. it displays only
Whats , i want to display the full string...
Whats wrong in my coding ??
the use of data annotations. when should we not use . or how should i use it when there are two or more tables on the form?
View 3 RepliesI am developing a simple application. I have completed.
1 - Using Respositary Pattern
2 - using DataAnnotation for validation.
3 - Selecting, Creating, Updating and Deleting.
My Questions.1 - I have extra BL validation. Should I create Service layer or use that in Partial Class where my DataAnnotation is?
I dont want to use DataAnnotations in one class and other BL validation in another class. Is there a way to combine both or Should I use those separately. Confused here? Any examples to implement BL.
2 - I have lots of Calculations to run once record is reterived and insterted. Where I put these calculations? Should I make extensions and call in controller or Methods in separate file. Any clean approach.
3 - Can I use Repositary Pattern and Service model in ASP.NET webforms with ADO.NET, Entity Framework and Linq to sql?
4 - I don't know id this is stupid question. Can we use ADO.NET with DataAnnotation somehow in Webforms and ado.net with mvc?.
I just bought 2 months of godaddy hosting. I've written an ASP.NET MVC3 application using EF CodeFirst. In the application I am using an initializer that will drop/create the database if the model has been changed. I get an error when I try to do this saying "Cannot drop the database 'cellularautomata', because it does not exist or you do not have permission."I assume this has to do with the fact that I am on shared hosting and do not have permissions to drop/create databases. Is there any way around this?
View 1 RepliesPropertiesMustMatch fails because for some reason it's hit PRIOR to "Required" property. How come??
how do you set the order or validation so that Required is hit prior to any custom validation?
I have a class like so:
[Validation.PropertiesMustMatch("Password", "ConfirmPassword", ErrorMessage = "'Password' and 'Confirm password' do not match.")]
[Validation.ValidateMemberUsername("Username", "Oldusername")]

Is there any support from JQuery for DataAnnotations?Found this but not sure if its supporting. http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-validation/

I have a text field set up to accept a date: [Code]....
how to get the validator to make sure that the YEAR is acceptable. For instance, I can enter a year of "0000" and the validator will not catch it or display the error message. I can even enter a year of "9999" also. The only time the validator catches it is if I input something like "45/95/7589" for the date.
I've taken over work for the custom forums that a previous developer created at my job, and came across a minor bug. We don't allow animated GIFs as avatars in the forums. However, if someone were to take an animated GIF, rename it to imagename.jpeg, and then upload it, the forums will show the image as being animated.
It's a very odd bug as I didn't even think it played the animation if the extension wasn't .gif.
So my question is: Is there a way to check (in .NET 2.0) if an image is an animated gif, even if the extension isn't?
Retrofitting ASP.NET WebForms themes to an old application I have a need to theme an <input> tag such that the JavaScript click event is different for each theme. I replaced with tag with an asp:Button, only to disciver that the OnClientClick property is not themeable.

I have an ASP.NET project which is pretty n-tier, by namespace, but I need to separate into three projects: Data Layer, Middle Tier and Front End.I am doing this because...
A) It seems the right thing to do, and
B) I am having all sorts of problems running unit tests for ASP.NET hosted assemblies.
Anyway, my question is, where do you keep your config info?Right now, for example, my middle tier classes (which uses Linq to SQL) automatically pull their connection string information from the web.config when instantiating a new data context.If my data layer is in another project can/should it be using the web.config for configuration info?If so, how will a unit test, (typically in a separate assembly) provide soch configuration info?
I have created a asp.net solution with two applications. They bothe use the same database which is setup with .net membership and roles.
Application 1 uses the membership for sauthentication to an administration area - this works fine.
Application 2 - has a different applicationID to App1. I want to be able to use the existing user account to manage App2's authentication needs.
How is this best achieved? Do I just match App2 appliactionID to App1's or is there another way?
My application is working fine in local environment but not working after push code in live. My locale environment and hosting environment both are having same configuration. Same app working fine 2 month before but in different domain but same hosting server.
how to check the both config / any possible to run debug mode in hosting server please let me know. below code used in all page for checking user session status but when I click on any link page redirect to login.aspx I think session got timeout. I don't know why session got time frequently, but this issue not happening in local environment (desktop).

How can I maintain using data annotation attributes for validations in mvc3 different requirement for edit and create in an elegant manner. I have an different edit and create requirement.
I've got a view with 2 forms on it - one to login and the other to register. My problem is that the client-side validation from MicrosoftMvcValidation is firing regardless of which form I submit - because my forms are rendering the inputs with the same id e.g.
<input id="User_Email"
name="User.Email" type="text"
value="" />
How can I change the generated forms to create different id's for the inputs in such a way that the validation works?
I'm using a strongly-typed view with a model with this property:
Model property:
[Required(ErrorMessage = "Please enter an email address")]
public string Email { get; set; }
First form:
<% using (Html.BeginForm("LogOn", "Account")) { %>
<%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.User.Email) %>
<%= Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.User.Email) %><% } %>
Second form:
<% using (Html.BeginForm("Register", "Account")) { %>
<%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.User.Email) %>
<%= Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.User.Email) %><% } %>
My second form produces id's identical to the first form which is causing the problem.
Is it possible to specify the difference in the Html helper on the view or do I need to provide 2 seperate models somehow? I'm a bit in the dark.
I'm not sure what I did to cause this but my website homepage won't load unless I specifically type the filename into the root of the website - i.e. URL....works but URL... doesn't. It could be something I changed in the web.config or the project properties.

I have a table that displays a user control on each row. The user controls are strongly typed to a viewmodel which contains DataAnnotation style validation. If one of the rows has invalid data entered (lets say the 3rd row) the data annotation validates display agains the first row/user control.How do I get the data annotation to show against the relevant user control?
View 1 RepliesI'm using CRv9 and want to make use of Google Charts API for generating QR code on fly (in asp .net) and display it in the Crystal Report in a PDF format.I have spent the whole day looking for solution with no luck. The way we output the report is we use .rpt file, feed it with data and use Response.OutputStream to feed to browser. No CrystalReportViewer control hence CSS solution is not an option.
Now, I got as far as added an OLE Object from file with Link, which I would be overwriting every time the new QR code is generated. I apreciate that CR requires it to be a bitmap, so I was planning to download and convert the google's generated PNG file to BMP, that's not an issue. The problem is that Image in the report does not update after I replace the file. Meaning, it displays the original image, which was added as an OLE Object.
If I open this report in CR designer, the image gets refresh/updated and I'd have to save changes to the report to see this new image next time I generate a PDF file.The question is really how to achieve a dynamic image in Crystal Reports 9? Remember, Picture object did not have a Graphic Location property until vXI, so I cannot use that.
Manipulations with DataSets is not an option either as we're not giving report a datasource, instead we just map the fields with FormulaFieldDefinitions.
sample qr code url: https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?chs=150x150&cht=qr&chl=Hello%20world&choe=UTF-8
I wanted to disable a button after it is clicked and at the same time fire the post back event to generate a report. My first set of code did not work because soon after the button is disabled the page won't submit/post back. here's the first set of code which was not implemented. the onclientclick calls a javascript function which has these lines
document.getElementById('btnGenerateReport').disabled=true;
GetPostBackEventReference(btnGenerateReport,'');
since it was not posting back,i tried the following on page_load code behind
btnGenerateReport.Attributes.Add("onclick", "this.disabled=true;" + ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(btnGenerateReport, ""))
that worked well. but I tried to copy the javascript that got generated and pasted directly on design view
onclick="this.disabled=true;__doPostBack('btnDownloadClientsWithConviction','');"
its not working from client side alone after I disable the code behind attributes.add
but when I check the view source the 2 pages are the samewhy am I not able to move the code from code-behind to design view?
I'm building the standard 3-tier ASP.NET web application but I'm struggling as to where to do certain things - specifically handling exceptions.
I've tried to have a look around on the web for some examples but can't find any which go as far as a whole project showing how everything links together.
In my data-tier I'm connecting to SQL Server and doing some stuff. I know I need to catch exceptions that could be raised as a result but I'm not sure where to do it.
From what I've read I should be doing it in the UI tier but in that case I'm not sure how to ensure that the connection to the database is closed. Is anyone able to clarify how to do this? Also if anyone knows as to where I could find an example 3-tier web application that follows best practices that would be great too.
