I had grid view which retrieved data from database and mad update for specific columns but when I did update on columns it give other columns null value what can I do? note :the columns which had null value I made them readonly because user hadnot permission to edit them

When I try to insert data all I get are null values and when I update, none of the values are updated. The formview looks like its working, but just doesn't. The primary key is an identity and it auto-increments by one.

I wrote a class to complete data access works (unfortunately, I didnt use nhibernate or other data access tools :((
I edited the class to use System.Data.Odbc objects rather than System.Data.SqlClient.
It works fine in selecting data but not manipulating data. when i try to insert new data it adds null data for all fields in the table.
in debug mode, i noticed that it might be caused by OdbcParameter but not sure.
I have a Gridview showing the data on one of my tables, and when I try to edit the data in one of the columns after I click update, rather than updating the record with the new value I typed in, the rows become null as in, everything in the row I just edited disappears. This inmediatly makes my application crash because one of the fields in my table (IssueDescription) doesn't allows null values.
This is the code, which is actually 100% auto-generated from when I created the GridView control and specified in the options to implement update, delete, edit options.

What is making the rows turn into null after the update? I did some research and tried to define the Update behaviour myself using RowUpdating function. After hours of learning how to use it I got it to "work", but because the Update turns everything to null when it updates, the sqlconnection command I use to do the query sends null anyways. I can paste the C# code if you'd like to see it, though I'd rather not use it if the auto-generated by asp above can be fixed instead.

I have a vb.net page that has an optional parameter. If a user enters data for that field, and clicks save, it saves fine via the stored procedure. HOWEVER, if the user changes their mind, and wants to erase the data they entered, they go to the text field, and delete the characters, and click save, but no matter what, the stored procedure will not save the fact that they erased the data (it won't set it back to NULL). If the user enters a space, the stored procedure will save the space, and if they enter different data, it will save the other data. I can't figure out how to get it back to letting them set it to Null? I think this is because it's an optional parameter, and the stored proc is used by several forms (Some of those forms do not include this parameter), but this form utilizes that optional paramater.

I have a pretty basic sql update statement that is looking for lots of parameters. It's possible that since a field isn't required, that a user will not make a radio button selection. If that is the case, I just want the field in my sql table to remain as a null value. But, what I have now, updates the sql value to a "0". How do I tell sql that if there isn't a value for this parameter, to update the field as Null? Here are my parameters and part of my sql update statement. What am I doing wrong?

Can anyone reliably get the EDS to save a nullable column to the databse as a "null" when bound to any of the controls such as "FormView"?I have tried using several different UpdateParameters (Session, ControlParamater, Parameter, etc). I have tried setting "ConvertEmptyStringToNull" to true and leaving the property off entirely. Nothing works. On my "Inserts" it works fine.(I have made sure the column is set to nullable = true in the Entity Designer.....)

In the master page, I'm looking to load the result of this query in the session like this:

When I run with the code, the session is always null. I added this line a second time, just right after, and the query runs again. When I'm looking to use the session at some other point in the code, it is null too there too. The query works because when I put a breakpoint on the return statement, I see the object properly filled.
I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.

I have a ASP.NET page that contains a formview and ObjectDataSource. On the page I only have 4 fields that are bound to fields in my datasource. My datasource contains 10 fields. When I call an update it is setting the 6 fields I am not binding to to null. The only way I can find it get around this is to add hidden fields for the 6 unbound fields and bind them to the datasource.Is there anyway around this without using hidden fields?

I have a Stored Procedure on my MSSQL 2005 database that should be executed when the user clicks on the save button.
It appears the Update is firing, but when I trap the DbCommand object in the SQLDataSource's 'Updating' event, all of the parameters that should be passed to the Stored Procedure are coming through as NULLs. Consequently, the Stored Procedure isn't updating anything.
In the click event of the save button I'm explicitly firing the SQLDataSource's Update method:

The parameters in the SQLDataSource <UpdateParameters></UpdateParameters> section appear to be correct.
Can anyone give me an idea on what to investigate to figure out why it appears the Update is only picking up NULLs?
I am using an EntityDataSource with a FormView on VB.NET application. The FormView contains an AjaxControlToolKit TabContains with multiple tabs. Due to the fact that each tab is a naming container, Bind doesn't work properly for updating values (as discovered from reading other posts on stackoverflow). I instead have to declare UpdateParameters on my EntityDataSource. Example markup is as follows:

This works great, until a customer is edited and their name is set to nothing (assuming in this case, a null name is allowed). The Name UpdateParameter is set to Null but the ObjectStateEntry is not set to modified for Null properties, even if previously the Entity had a value specified. As long as the name is changed to something other than Null, everything is updated correctly.
I found a workaround by putting the following code in the Updating event of the EntityDataSource.

This makes sure that each property in the UpdateParameters has its state set to modified. It works, but it seems like a hack and I can see it causing problems down the road. Is there anything else I could do?

AddButton adds new row to DataTable with data from textboxes, binds DataTable to GridView SubmitButton sends data to database. The Adding of a row works to add the row to the gridview, but it won't add a second or third and so on, only adds the 1. SubmitButton belives the DataTable that GridView is databound to is null and won't send anything to the database. How can i get the datatable to persist between the two update panels? we have a AutoGenerateColumns-enabled WmxDataGrid in which we are able to update table rows in a DataBase connected with a SqlDataSource.
Each time we clear a field an empty string is written to the database where we want to write DBNull values.
At the moment we generate the update string via UPDATE... SET.. and the SQL Server function NULLIF(value, '').
Works proper but when I want to add the values to e.NewValues in BeginUpdate event I'm not able to read the values from the auto generated text boxes. How do I do that? Is there an easier way to automatically convert empty strings to NULL values?
I have a table converted from Access and the identity keys were lost. Now I need to make the id column the identity column, but it already has a lot of null values, how do I auto generate integer values for the null rows? The row ids are incremented, so if there is a way to auto increment the ids

I have a stored procedure to insert data into Table B, but when I tried to insert a null value into column ID of table B, this error came up:

The statement has been terminated.
The insert statement in asp.net is like so:

I have a problem with a SessionVariable. I will explain what is happening:
1. From the default.aspx I send Session["LoginByAdmin"] = "Dummy"; and then redirect to this page where I have the code below. So the Page_Load sees that this Session["LoginByAdmin"] != null and enter this page. This works fine !
2. In the Page_Load, I later fill a ListBox1 with foldernames.
3. With Button1_Click1, I will now delete the choosen Folder in the ListBox1 wich works fine the first time and the ListBox updates the new existing folders in the ListBox. (I have wrapped this inside an updatepanel)
The problems comes now when I try to delete a choosen folder in the ListBox1 the second time in a row. When I select a Folder in the ListBox1 and now Press Button1, I will be redirected to "Default.aspx". This meens that this code is running: (That meens that Session["LoginByAdmin"] == null and I have not set this to null anywhere. This is my big question how this variable can be = null here?
