wizard.FindControl does not find the control.
How do I access it so, for example, I can change the text on a button? I'm using a 3rd party source for the button text so cannot use Globalization.
Is there a way to access the updated text property of a TextBox which is inside a GridView cell when a Wizard controls next or previous buttons are clicked? I have a requirement to not use the edit and/or update buttons on the GridView row. Therefore, I am trying to figure out a way of grabbing the updated values of each TextBox of the GridView on the PostBack. Furthermore, these controls (i.e. Wizard and GridView) are within an AJAX UserControl.
View 5 RepliesI have got a Wizard with StartNavigationTemplate, StepNavigationTemplate and FinishNavigationTemplate. All of them have a button with ID btnSave while the FinishNavigationTemplate has another button with id btnFinish. I am trying to save draft while Save is clicked and Submit when submit is clciked.
My problem is that I can't figure out how to access the ID of the button on which I am basing my conditions. I tried the following code:

My requirement is to disable a control on Master page when user is on some specific step of asp:wizard control. I am facing 2 challenges,
1. I am not able to disable the control master page by setting its Enabled property as false, this is inspite that I am getting the control object when I do a Master.FindControl("MyControlName").
2. To try and disable the control from JS, I am not able to find a JS event that would get called when a speific tab step get active and loaded.
I am trying to use wizard in an update panel but the wizard is disappearing when I click for the next or prev step button. I only want to close wizard , when I click the finish button. How can I do this ?

View 1 RepliesI have a question about retrieving the values from dynamic created controls. I'am using an wizard witch collects it data based on the steps in the wizard. At a certain wizard step i generate dropdownlists and textboxes depending on some records from a database. At this point no problem, the controls are created perfect. When i press the next button on the wizard i read out the eventarg e.currentstepindex, iterate throug the gridview witch is displaying the controls and try to find the control with "findcontrol" function.
The controls are "nothing" and i cant access them. THe source code of the page lets me show that the controls are there and that they have the assigned ID's.I investigated on google what the problem could be. I has to do with the viewstate and i have to regenerate the controls on page_load.
I have a <asp:Wizard> control with 6 or so steps. In the first 3 steps, I want to hide the default Wizard navigation (Next button, etc.), as each WizardStep's contents will handle that. For the last 3 or so steps, if possible, I want to use the built-in navigation. I've modified the <StepNavigationTemplate> contents, but that alone doesn't cut it, because it affects all steps. Here are my options:
Find a way to dynamically show or hide the StepNavigation from the codebehind. (I feel like this might be best -- is it possible?)
Use StepType with <StartNavigationTemplate>, <StepNavigationTemplate>, and <FinishNavigationTemplate> to switch between navigation options (marking multiple steps as "start" or "finish" feels like it's abusing the mechanism)
Switch to a <asp:MultiView> and handle navigation manually (I'd rather not do this)

How to Access the controls exist in create user step template in a createuserwizard?

On that user control is an update panel.
In that update panel is a wizard.
One of the steps is as follows.

What this does is create a javascript spinner control. Now when I click the NEXT button onto this step it generates the spinner control. I click next to go to the next step, then I click PREVIOUS to go back to this step and the spinner control is not generated.
Now I have tested this on an ASPX page and it seems to work, I then copy the code across to an ASCX control and put the page live and it does not work.
The update panel has an animation extender that just displays a div with a processing gif when you click next/previous.
So any reason why it creates the control on the next and not the previous step?
I use gridview and sqldatasource wizard for update value. If i need update some value example close_date (datetime value) only. What should i do?

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to use a server control inside a template wizard step, when I drop such server control in the first step of the wizard everything goes ok. When I insert even a blank step previous to the step which contains the server control, the javasript code of the server control is not rendered at all, the page doesn't fail during load but until I go with mouse over an item of the grid for instance.When I check the rendered HTML I can see no HTML, nor javascript events of this server control where rendered, neither the implementation nor calls to javascript, but even rarer what is there visible in the grid for ie, even the other components of the server control, are not in the "view source code" content. I seems it was sent to the client, even showed, but truncated in some phase..The server control consists of a gridview with custom navigation&information capabilities and javascript functions to highlight the selected grid items or highlight when mouse over event occurs.. (full tested outside asp:wizard)

using the wizard i can successfully configure the datasource, then I can choose the datasource. The next step you should be able to select your display value and the selected value. However, these boxes are not populated within the wizard. I added a gridview to test the datasource and it displays fine.

in generate the Stored Procedures when using Create TableAdapter configuration Wizard in VS.it can not generate the Stored Procedures for Delete and Update Commands, but it generated for Select and Insert. i tried many times, but still get the same problem.

I could copy databases without a care in the world. Including constraints, stored proc., AND the data, etc.
Now, with v2008, the wizard is dumbed down too much. It's a "stupid" copy function that fails on the first constraint it meets.
"Copy database.." is not an option here: it needs sysadmin on both source and destination server.
Re-adding the constraints manually is not an option either: the database is WAY too large.
I'm actually hoping there is a temporary bug in the import/export wizard. Each option (and you have THREE...) returns with a new error.

I'm trying to get used to sql server 2008 having been forced to upgrade by my isp. I need to back up my key db on a weekly remote schedule, so have been trying to use ssms to export data from my remote db to a local copy.
Firstly I created a new empty db on the local machine. Then I scripted the structure of the db on the remote machine and ran the resulting query on the local machine to copy the table structure into the new db. This gave me empty target tables to map to (see
below).
I used the export data wizard and selected my remote tables, then highlighted the tables to be copied and used the Edit Mappings option. Here I need to do two things, firstly checking'Enable Identity Insert' (because I have a unique id in most tables which is identity seeded, and I've read that if this is not checked sql server will helpfully renumber your entire table, rendering all your foreign key references useless). Secondly I need to decide what to do with the data already in the destination table. SQL 2k DTS simply dropped the destination table and recreated it. SQL 2008 will either keep the structure and delete the rows therein, or drop the table and recreate it. Because I intend to save this package and call it on a schedule in the future, I need to choose one of these options, because next time the target db won't be empty.
If I choose the delete rows option, when the package runs I get the following error when the process gets ot the first table with an identity ID which is used elsewhere in the db as a foreign key.

Half a dozen preceding tables did seem to transfer fine, but the process falls down on this one table. What I want is for the process to ignore constraints whilst it does the backup.
Undeterred I tried the other option, dropping each table and creating a new version. This time I get the error:

I'm using Visual Studio 2008 with SQL Server Express databases in my .net 3.5 website
I have three tables I'd like to make entries to when the user completes a wizrd i've setup on a web form.
The First Step - The user enters basic information about their "Case". The table looks like so:
db_Cases - CaseId PK auto int, CustomerId, etc fields
The Second Step - The user enters information about the "Debtors" that are related to this "Case". Think of this as being products....The only difference is these records wont be used over and over again like a product would. The user may need to enter data about several "Debtors", just like if you needed to show several different products on an invoice. For example the user may need to enter information about a husband and wife. This means two entries in the "Debtors" table. The table looks like so:

The Third Step - Here's my problem. This step needs to make entries into a third table called "CaseDetails". Again, this is just like if you were creating an invoice with several different products on it, where you would want to get a subtotal of each product's cost. The table looks like so:
db_CaseDetails - CaseDeatailId PK auto int, CaseId int, DebtorId, int
* When this table is later viewed, It will reflect all "Debtors" attached to the specific "Case" being viewed.
The first two steps aren't a problem, I pretty well have that handled in the wizard. BUT How do I create the entries in the "CaseDetails" table when the user finishes?
My idea right now is..... Considering the "Debtors" will be re-used but only on rare occations, I'm thinking I should just add the "CaseId" that was created in step one, to the "Debtors" table at the same time the "Debtor" is created. So the table would look like so.
db_Debtors - DebtorId PK auto int, CaseId int, Name, Address, etc
I have to export some data from excel to sql server. So, I just used simply Import/Export wizard from Management Studio.
Fill up and set the all necessary according to this wizard, after that I saved as SSIS Package.
Because, I have to run this package several time, but unfortunately, I can't find it where she saved it.
That may be funny, but really i can't find it out So, How to i save this package?
I'm using VS 2008 and SQL 2008.
I have created the tables and the stored procedures in SQL 2008.
In VS 2008, I created DataSet1.xsd in App_Code and created the connectionString in web.config file.
Then when I go into the DataSet1.xsd and try to add a TableAdapter, strange things happened.
First I chose the data connection, then selected "Use existing stored procedure", then there was nothing listed in the dropdownlists (in Select, Insert, Update, or Delete).
I'm sure the connectionString is correct because if I choose "Use SQL statement" and type in a "select * from mytable1", the TableAdapter can be created without any problem.
I'm trying to validate that a GridView logated in one of the steps of the Wizard Control is populated by the user before the Next button is clicked. What I mean is that I need to block Next (or Prev) button until the user populates a gridview, once the gridview has at least one element then enable the (Next/Prev) buttons. How can I enable/disable Next/Prev buttons within a specific step?.

I have Repeater control in my Wizard control. when client inputs information and clicks next button he gets to next WizardStep, thou from next step when client clicks previous button and navigates to previous step Repeater control's input fields are empty. How can I store client input so when he will navigate back he could see previously added information. I don't want to use any client or server side session management techniques, because I think viewstate is enough. I think my problem is I don't bind Repeater control in a right place, besides, all the controls inside my Repeater control are loading dynamically.

guys who intrest on this you can copy this code and test it on your pc, when we click the link button in repeater's item will do nothing at the first time but it will work when we click it again.i have debug this and found that when the page is not in post back, the linkbutton's id will be "MainWizard_rpMain_ctl01 _lbEdit" in prerender method but after render it will change to "MainWizard_rpMain_ctl04 _lbEdit", but when page have been post back, the clientid will be correct as "MainWizard_rpMain_ctl01_lbEdit" and then event can be fired correctly.i thought this is a bug of .net framework, when i set the value of wizard's DisplaySideBar, it will ask to re-create controls but repeater haven't clean the item's count and then recreate item will use wrong item index, i hope this message can be post to .net framework team and they can find out what's the matter on it.
