Apr 16, 2010
I need to set Custom Error Validation for my site.
I have given [URL] .This says 404 Error.
I already set it my web.config file for 404 error redirection.But it is not working.

Here's my Application_OnError event sink in global.asax.vb:
Sub Application_OnError(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim innerMostException As Exception = getInnerMostException(Me.Context.Error)
If TypeOf innerMostException Is AccessDeniedException Then
Security.LogAccessDeniedOccurrence(DirectCast(innerMostException, AccessDeniedException))
Dim fourOhThree As Integer = DirectCast(HttpStatusCode.Forbidden, Integer)
Throw New HttpException(fourOhThree, innerMostException.Message, innerMostException)
End If
End Sub
You'll see that if we've got an innermost Exception of type AccessDeniedException we throw a new HTTPExcpetion with a status code of 403 AKA 'forbidden'
Here's the relevant web.config entry:
<customErrors defaultRedirect="~/Application/ServerError.aspx" mode="On">
<error statusCode="403" redirect="~/Secure/AccessDenied.aspx" />
</customErrors>
So what we're expecting is a redirect to the AccessDenied.aspx page. What we get is a redirect to the ServerError.aspx page.
We've also tried this:
Sub Application_OnError(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim innerMostException As Exception = getInnerMostException(Me.Context.Error)
If TypeOf innerMostException Is AccessDeniedException Then
Security.LogAccessDeniedOccurrence(DirectCast(innerMostException, AccessDeniedException))
Context.Response.StatusCode = DirectCast(HttpStatusCode.Forbidden, Integer)
End If
End Sub
Which unsuprisingly doesn't work either.

I am trying to use the Application_Error to redirect the user to a custom error page. I know I could use the web.config to do this, but let's assume for now that this is not a desirable path to take.
Initially, I tried to do a Response.Redirect to perform this, however, there seem to be occasions where the current http context does not define the response object. So, I attempted to perform a check to make sure that the response object is not null prior to attempting the redirection, and if it is not defined, perform a Server.Transfer instead.
What happens is that in most cases, the Redirect causes the browser to some generic "friendlyish" error page rather than the requested error page.
So then I tried using Server.Transfer exclusively, and this worked well for most cases, however, sometimes the transfer didn't seem to take in the browser. Changing it back to a redirect in these cases solved that problem, but reintroduced the issue where the errors previously being captured and transferred now were being redirected.
What I surmised from this is that in certain contexts where the Application_Error method is trapped, it is necessary to use Server.Transfer in redirection, whereas in others, it is necessary to use Response.Redirect. The question then became twofold: (a) When is one necessary and when is the other? and (b) What available information can I poll to tell me when a given condition exists.
After much searching, I cannot find a reasonable answer to this question. So I began to trap errors and examine the HttpContext object for some indicator. One thing that I was looking for is the reason why if even with a defined Response in the current context does a redirect fail. The only thing that stood out is that even though a Response object may exist, the Session data could be absent. I added the case to check whether the Session data was null and perform a Transfer in this case and it
seems to be handling it properly.
I emphasize "seems to be handling it properly" because no documentation I've been able to find confirms either the problem I am having or whether this is an appropriate strategy for solving it.
I guess the question is, am I on the right track here or is the null Session object just a red herring, indicative of nothing relevant. Here's the check I have set up for reference.

i have mapped *.xyz extension to my own custom handler in asp.net and can run it on Windows asp.net.
How can I do the same thing on mono (Linux/Apache - ubuntu)?
I have this in my web.config:
<httpHandlers><add path="*.xyz" verb="*" type="MyCustomHandler,...">...
I also added similar things to mod_mono.conf and several other files but still I get http 404 The resource cannot be found.

I was referring muddasar's one of the article for the validation. Below is my code and i am trying to validate the file upload selected file format on the submit button. I have 4 upload control and fu1 is mandatory field and others are not mandatory fields. Though i need to validate all the four uploads if the files have been selected. My full sample code is below for easy testing,
<asp:FileUpload runat="server" ID="fu1" />
<asp:Label ID="lblMessage1" runat="server"></asp:Label>
<asp:FileUpload runat="server" ID="fu2" />
<asp:Label ID="lblMessage2" runat="server"></asp:Label>
[code]...
I am doing slight mistake on the return to the main function. if i test indvidual function it works fine. whereas if i include the 4 functions in one function with the return statement, it's not validating. goes to to the server.

What I would like to have is a mapping between a custom file extension to a class that is not System.Web.UI.Page but a class of mine that inherits from System.Web.UI.Page.
i.e.:
*.aspx -> System.Web.UI.Page
*.my -> My.Package.MyClass (inherits from System.Web.UI.Page)
I know I can map any extension to be treated like .aspx but I can't find the way to do what I have in mind.

If I create a custom error page in my web.config file, how do I retrieve error details in the error page?
So with ...
<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="/error/error.aspx">
<error statusCode="404" redirect="/error/404.aspx" />
</customErrors>
I am referring to errors generated by my asp.net. For example I created a sample page and wrote 'throw new Exception("some error")' as a test. How can I retrieve an instance of the exception or exception details in my "/error/error.aspx" page? Currently in my error page if I query Server.GetLastError() the return value is null.

Basically I want to take the following:And make it match the styling of the rest of the application.I am creating a custom error page in my C# based project and I want it to be able to show the same information that is displayed in the ASP.NET default error page. From fiddling with reflector I can see that this is generated through HttpException.GetHtmlErrorMessage() but when I try to use this in my exception it returns null.

I'm having a wicked time trying to redirect the different error scenarios to a custom error page. Basically, I have put some code in Application_Error in global.asax, and done the necessary web.config settings to use Custom Errors.
In global.asax on Application_Error, I stored the Server.GetLastError in Session. The reason I have to store it in Session is because (as far as I know) you lose the exception when using "ResponseRedirect". And the reason I have to use ResponseRedirect is because I am using an UpdatePanel with AJAX calls, and any exception during the AJAX call shows up as a JavaScript error, and doesn't get handled using the custom error page (see this post).
void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e){ ////must perform this check to avoid the "Session state is not available in this context" errors if (HttpContext.Current.Session != null) { Session["LastException"] = Server.GetLastError(); } else { // (I think this happens when there are compile-time errors) Server.Transfer("~/Oops.aspx"); }}void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e){ //must perform this check to avoid the "Session state is not available in this context" errors if (HttpContext.Current.Session != null) { //initialize the session (http://forums.asp.net/t/1405077.aspx) Session["LastException"] = ""; }}

I am trying to handle the unhandled exceptions in my project.I tried with this following code in my web.config filebut it is not at all redirecting to an error page which i have created instead of that it is throwing an exception in my code itselef. How to print the error description over therein my custom error page.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<sys.web>......<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="~/Error.aspx"></customErrors>...</sys.web>
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And even i tried in Global.asax page in Application_Error() method like below
Exception ex = Server.GetLastError();Response.Redirect("~/Error.aspx?errmsg="+ex.message);Server.ClearError();
And in my Error.aspx.cs page i have placed a label and i have written code like this
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
Label1.Text=Request["errmsg"];
}
But it is not getting redirected my error page and not displaying anything on it.

What is the best way to go about creating a custom framework for asp.net?
We have several enterprise level asp.net ecommerce websites all running from completely seperate code bases. What I'd like to do is standardise the common components (session management/urlrewriting/surge control etc) and integrate them into the .net framework at the highest level possible and in a way that my developers cannot (easily) make changes.
I've considered creating a common assembly and just referencing that in each of the solutions but this still relies on the developer wiring up the httphandlers/modules and implementing the basepage design pattern for each individual page/masterpage.

I need to debug a page which loads up by redirection from another page. Here's my chain of events:
Page 1 loads, options are set in a form
Page 1 options saved into Session variable
Page 2 loads and reads Session variable
Page 2 processes <-- it is at this point that I need to debug
Page 2 won't actually load without the session variables, so when I hit the Start Debug button in VS2010 I just end up at a blank page.
Is it possible to 'fake' session values before loading page so I can then observe the logic flow, or is there a better way?

I need to send a Customized Error page for 503 Errors produced by my asp.net website. I have tried to simulate the condition by switching off the application pool (doesn't work) and by flooding my application with requests. Even though IIS sends me the default 503 error page, and even though I have tried setting a Custom URL in IIS and ASP.NET for this error code, it still returns me the default 503 error page.

Currently, I'm just using clientside Javascript (location.href), but I am wondering if there is a way in Asp.Net to figure out the URL the user originally entered (assume I did not change it myself via 301), or at least to track it in a simple and reliable manner. As I am using my own implementation of URL rewriting via the global.asax (e.g. Context.RewritePath), this is not an easy task, particularly since I don't want to touch it too much.
Example
Global.asax:
public override void Init()
{
base.Init();
this.BeginRequest += new EventHandler(Global_BeginRequest);
}
void Global_BeginRequest(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (VARIOUSCONDITIONS) Context.RewritePath("SOMEURL");
}
SomePage.aspx.cs
protected void Page_Init(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//Request.RawUrl is equal to "SOMEURL", as
//are other properties that store the URL.
}

I am using a custom error page in IIS 6:<customErrors redirectMode="ResponseRedirect" mode="On" defaultRedirect="Error2.aspx"/>I want to disable authentication for the custom error page because the error being raised is related to an authentication module and I don't want to get into an infinite loop and I want to display a clean error page to the user. I have been trying the following configuration to do that.

I've a got an Asp.Net site that is using Forms authentication, I've also got custom errors configured in the web.config. One of these is a special error page for 403's (access denied). My question is how do I get Forms authentication to work smarter?
I would like Forms authentication to send users to login page only if they are not authenticated. If they are I want it to defer to the custom error pages that i've defined in the web.config. This seems like something very basic, how can this be achieved?
