This session is then used to determine if certain nodes in a menu are visible. One problem is that when the session variable is assigned, the menu is not updating, until either I refresh the page manully in the browser or move to another page.

Jul 27, 2010I am developing an application using Visual Studio 2010 and SQLServer 2008. My application has two pages and the first page contains a GridView with all the records "User Administration" and when user click on any Username (template field ->linkbutton) I read the USERID like this.
Session["UserID"] = e.commandArgument;
Response.Redirect("UserOperations.aspx");
which takes it to the Data Entry page where user updates the information and save the data.
The problem i am facing is that when I hit the browser REFRESH button couple of times the session variables looses the value which is trouble for me as I am using Session Variables for different purposes.

If SessionTimout = 1 minute, this code attaches Refresh Metatag, but it refreshes after 2 minutes, not 1 minute after the Session expires. If the user browse the page, the Session doesn't expires. The session should expires 1 minute after the user stop browsing the page.Is it possible to control the real session behaviour, not just to put static value, like 2 minutes or SessionTimout + custom minutes.Can I use something like:

Oct 1, 2010I have many controls like dropdown, radiobuttonlist, etc on my page and I put all these controls inside the update panel so that the page doesn't look to be posting back when something is selected. Now the working on the page is very smooth. But the session object isn't getting refreshed even if I postback to the server and as a result even if the users are working on the page they are being sent to the login screen after 20 mins.
Is there anyway where I could put all the controls in update panel and still refresh the session after any postback(dropdown selection)

Now, as you can see I've set up the commandargument, and was expecting to get to that in my code behind file. My code is as follows:

Ok...so far so good, and as long as I'm the only one working on the system it works fine. The problem is if this scenario happens:
* I go to the page and look at the gridview
* Someone else enters a new record into the database, causing the first row to contain a new record (not displayed in my browser)
* I click select.
What happens then is that, for some odd reason, I will get n numbers higher than the one I actually selected (n = num_added -num_removed).
I was under the impression that the commandargument wouldn't change for my session as long as I didn't refresh the gridview...?... There are no ajax or anything else messing with postbacks or viewstate as far as I can see..

It is supposed to refresh every night.... refresh is done by other vendor(3rd party).... we dont know what method(technology) they use to refresh the databases....

Nov 3, 2010I have a table on my page. I need to scroll down a little to get to that table. In that table i have som data that i edit and save to database. When the save is done i need to refresh the page( Response.Redirect(Request.RawUrl )) so it loads the new data to that table. When the refresh is done the page is on top again so that i need to scroll down again to see the table. This makes it very unusable for the user.

1) checking at the page level that the value is valid not 0 when its not expected to be 0, not a zero-length string when its expected to have a length
2) have code at the page level that sets the values if the values have not been set as when the Session timeout, ideally putting the code in a class derived from Page and then deriving all of my pages from the new class so that the code does not have to be repeated in every page

I am still learning OOAD. I want to keep relevant properties with relevant classes. I also want to keep all Session stored variables in one place for ease of maintenance and to encapsulate the session keys and calls. I feel like my design is too coupled though. How can I make it more loosely coupled? Is my editMapUtilities class too tightly coupled to the SessionHandler class? How would you do it better?

I want to provide a certain functionality to the website that if the user is already login on computer 1 and now try to login on computer 2, so he will be allowed to remain login on computer 2, while automatically logout him from computer 1. I also know that http is a stateless medium, so whenever user interact with computer 1 and try to interact with the page, it will get noticed at that time.
